Travel Tips for Hobart

Go for a walk

by Tasmania

If you enjoy walking, an excellent way to spend a day is to walk on the mountain which is so close to Hobart.
Wellington Walk Maps are available at the Tourist information Centrefor the more adventurous and I would really suggest that if you intend walking to the summit, you choose one of the honeycomb of tracks and avoid walking up the road.
One track starts from very close to the Cascade Brewery and I have seen a platypus there about five minutes into the trip. This path goes to Junction Hut through rainforest and open bush, from there other trails take you either up the mountain or past a waterfall to Lenah Valley.
Be prepared for sudden weather changes though. The summit of the mountain will be at least 10C cooler than Hobart and has a strong wind. Wet weather gear is essential.

Eat in Mures!

by sheryl_tan about Eat in Mures!

In the morning till late afternoon, there is a corner at the Lower Deck where fresh seafood are sold. The Mures Fish Center located at Victora Dock offers great seafood! We ate at the Lower Deck whcih is a busy self service licensed seafood bistro. If you have extra cash to spare, then make your way up to the Upper Deck a la carte seafood restuarant with its great location that offers a view of the dock. The resturant claims to use the freshest product on both decks, but honestly the 'fresh' oysters at the Lower Deck is not that fresh! But other than that, we had enjoyed our fish and chips and ice-cream (2 giant scoops for A$2.80)!

Mount Wellington Visitor's Centre

by ATXtraveler

If you are headed to Hobart, I would definitely recommend taking a trip to the top of Mount Wellington. Although it is very windy, the view from the top makes it more than worth it.

With a 360 degree view of the city and surrounding mountains and valleys, this place is ideal for some great pictures. You can look right up the Derwent River past the Cadbury plant, east out to Port Arthur and its historic pennisula, south past Bruny Island and parts beyond.

This does close in bad weather though, so make sure you go when the weather is safe!

Chocoholics Anonymous Meeting Cancelled!

by ATXtraveler

Chances are that anyone reading this tip has most likely enjoyed one of the many products of the Cadbury-Schweppes company at some point in their lives. Popular in America are the famous Cadbury Easter Eggs, where the Easter Bunny was seen laying these! Needless to say, you have probably enjoyed a Dairy Milk Bar, Caramello Koala or Cherry Ripe, all of which are produced here in Australia!

Cadbury's Factory in Hobart is the second largest Cadbury factory in the world, and 90% of what is produced in this factory stays in Australia. The tour is a great way to fill up on chocolate samples, and also see how the delicious chocolate is made, stretched, shaped, cooled, packaged and shipped to your local milk bar!

HUON TRAIL -Huon River

by imstress

Relax and enjoy the fine food, views and atmosphere of the Boatshed Cafe built on the banks of the Huon River.

Our tour guide arranged our lunch at the Boatshed Cafe. And we took some pics before our food arrive.
