Antarctic adventure centre?
by TheMcAndrews
Does this centre still operate in Hobart? I've tried unsuccessfully to find any up to date information on it. Our family are travelling to Hobart in August and I would love to take the kids. Thanks

Looks like it has been closed and the building sold, found the following
"26oct04
THE new owner of the former Antarctic Adventure building says it will be filled by "something the people of Hobart and Tasmania like". But Tasmanian developer Robert Rockefeller said a decision on its future use was still months away. The state-owned site of the former failed tourism venture was sold to Winrock Investments Pty Ltd for $2.4 million."
There is a very good one in new zealand.

Travel Tips for Hobart
Hobart Tip
by Svitata
Hobart has some very nice parks and landscapes. It's generally a very peaceful place and very safe. It's advisable to either rent a car to get around or if you don't want the hassle of reading a map, then you could join the local day tours.

There are many trails, the most famous and very long one is The Overland Track. It takes several days to complete and includes the famous World Heritage Site: Cradle Mountain. I was not fit enough to do it at the time. I just did short one day walks. Another thing to remember is to head back to camp BEFORE sundown!! We got caught out one night and it was scary! Not only is it spooky (just the sound of wind and animals! whooooo...) but also dangerous! It started to snow when we were heading back and we couln't see the tiny trail at all!! We were both on our butts quite a few times! But the scenery made it all worth it!!
Here are two more amazing photographs by Peter Dombrovskis. It really looks like that, like another world. Tasmania has totally unique and VERY isolated wilderness.
Port Arthur Historical Site.

Port Arthur is a must see if in that area. It still has the remains of the original buildings, the old church, gaols and old cottages for the families of wardens.
It has a very well presented memorial for the victims of the Port Arthur Massacre. I got very emotional when I was there.
Salamanca Weekend Market
by imstress
Salamanca Market is visited by tens of thousands of customers every week. It is opened every Saturday between 8.30am and 3.00pm.
Hundreds of stallholders set up their stalls on a street. Each Saturday morning, roads leading to Salamanca Place are closed for the Salamanca Market.
Tasman's Arch

I just loved the scenery here, even though it wasn't marked as a major tourist attraction on the map.
Water flows here through a gap into the cliff into a round rock walled enclosure they call the 'Devil's Cauldron'.
