Car rental at Hobart airport
by kidloco
Is it worthwile renting a car at Hobart airport or will i get it cheaper in the city?
On the internet i saw some prices like $61 for a Ford Falcomif i pick it up at the airport.
I'll be there for just one day and we want to visit Port Arthur and Hobart.

I would go with the airport one... otherwise you'll have to factor in the bus or taxi cost too (about $20) and it will just be easier to get in your car at the airport. I can't even really think of many car rentals in the city.

I would rent from the airport. Hobart is only small, and it would be easier to rent from the airport.

Travel Tips for Hobart
Most people that go to...
by mocca
Most people that go to Australia don't bother to go to Tasmania, and that is a shame. It is one of the most beautifull parts of Australia, and people whho liked New Zealand will love Tasmania too.
You can spend months hiking through the rainforrestt, visiting cultural sights and just relax on the beach in the summer. The best time to be in Hobart is february, when the tallships event is going on (book well in advance, everything will be booked out), parties, fairs, beautifull ships, it is just one big party.
Shuttle Bus Service Up Mount Wellington
by xuessium
There is a shuttle bus service that runs from near Hobart's Tourist Info Office up to the summit of Mount Wellington, free & easy style. Time spend at the summit is about 45 minutes before the return journey begins.
Departs Hobart daily at the following times (circa 2004):
Mon-Fri: 9.30am, 12.00noon & 2.30pm
Sat-Sun: 9.30am & 1.30pm.
Cost is A$25.00 per pax.
City apartments pick-up can be arranged.

go to the Salamanca Markets!!! In winter!!! Eat donuts and buy funky wire sculptures for your family at home in Brisvegas. Dance to a groovy Mexican band busking on the street. Warm yourself by wearing longjohns (being from Brissy I was hopelessy unprepared!), and the hand dryers in the loos!!
There are lots of great little knick knacks to buy that are LOCALLY MADE! and not cheap fakes from Taiwan.
Liverpool Street
by iandsmith
Just walking around the streets of Hobart can be very rewarding. There is so much in the way of heritage architecture that you can just about pick any street in the near CBD area.
These shots are, rather obviously, taken of Liverpool Street, one of quite a few streets that run parellel in a southerly direction from the CBD.
The building in the third picture has a small green oval tag next to the front door indicating its heritage listing.

Most anyone with a sweet tooth has most likely enjoyed one of the many products of the Cadbury-Schweppes company at some point in their lives.
Australians get the best of the product but popular in America are the famous Cadburys Easter Eggs, where the Easter Bunny was seen laying these!
Dairy Milk Bar, Caramello Koala or Cherry Ripe (my favourite), all of which are produced here in Australia, are popular in the Stars and Stripes.
Cadbury's Factory in Hobart is the second largest Cadbury factory in the world, and 90% of what is produced in this factory stays in Australia. The tour is a great way to fill up on chocolate samples and, come on, that's all you really went there for isn't it.
For mine, the Belgians still make the best stuff but Cadburys these days are making stuff for other customers to better formulas.
The factory's setting overlooking the Derwent with views to Mount Wellington makes for a lovely backdrop as well and, if you're so inclined, there's a reasonable golf course adjacent.
It's a 9 hole with different tee positions for the second nine.
There's also an interesting little park called Windermere Foreshore Park and it details the history of how 2,000 troops were housed in the area prior to departure for WWI.
These shots were all taken from that park.
