Wonderful experience stay

Grand Chancellor is very good hotel. Fortunately, we are lucky to get the rooms with view over the harbour, it were fantastic. I could stay staring at the window the whole day. The hotel is situated across the road from the Waterfront. The hotel is in a good position close to all the major restaurants, cafes and bars in Hobart. There are plenty of restaurants across the road at the Waterfront. Near the famous Drunken Admiral Restaurant as well. It is a ten-minute walk up to the main shopping area of Hobart. I highly recommended this hotel.

Great Location, shame about the rooms.

Hotel Grand Chancellor – Hobart.

The hotel is situated across the road from the Waterfront, the building is large and imposing with little warmth or character. It has a large conventional lobby area with a restaurant and café bar attached. Our room, decorated in mix match pink and grey, is on the second level and looks directly across to the Waterfront, marina and harbour. It is spacious but is very mundane, an ordinary run of the mill room, which is in need of a complete revamp...

There is a mini bar, working desk, internet connection, small couch and coffee table. Overall, the room lacks any atmosphere or style; it is your typical comfortable hotel room. Thank God for the view, this is highly appealing and interesting. If staying here, only ask for harbour views, otherwise you will be looking at just the back streets of the city.

The bathroom also needs a major makeover but it is roomy with good make-up mirrors. This hotel really caters for conferences and tour buses. There are some very up-market hotels opposite which cater for tourists looking for something more intimate and personal.

The hotel is in a good position close to all the major restaurants, cafes and bars in Hobart. There is a bottle shop next door selling all sorts of refreshments, a hairdresser is also located in the building. The indoor swimming pool and gym area is very boring and again needs a major overhaul and refurbishment to bring it up to a reasonable standard.

There are plenty of restaurants across the road at the Waterfront. I ordered in house dining and waited one hour for it to be delivered. It would have been quicker walking across the road to buy fresh fish and chips at “Flippers”.

Unique Quality: If looking for something special, I suggest having a look at Somerset on the Pier and Somerset on Salamanca, they have lovely apartments perched on the harbour with waterviews of the Derwent River and Historic Sullivan Cove.

The others, which look impressive, are Henry Jones Art Hotel and Zero Apartments, all are within a few minutes away. It is a ten-minute walk up to the main shopping area of Hobart. All tours and cruises operate from the Waterfront.

I have given this hotel a three star rating, due to its uninspiring, dreary and boring interior, which needs a complete new face-lift.

Dinner: Dine at Henry Jones Art Hotel – excellent food, service and atmosphere, bookings are essential.

Accommodations by the Harbor.

Our stay at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart was very nice. We chose this place because we got a deep discount rate through an online booking service. This hotel is usually very pricey and we took advantage of the deal. We paid a reasonable price for this higher end hotel and got a great room with a view of the harbor. To top it all off, the hotel is located just a short walk from everything in Hobart and as such is idealy situated. The rooms were excellent and I would highly recommend this to anyone as long as you get a good deal.

Unique Quality: The pool was very nice, but the location and view of the harbor were it's best qualities.
