This was a wonderful stay for the money! We spent only AU$130/night for 4 people to stay in the self-contained unit with a kitchen, two bedrooms with double beds, a big bathroom, a kitchen and dining table, a separate toilet & sink, a living room with couch, two recliners & tv, and even a washer and dryer with laundry detergent. Oh, and the price also included a basket full of breakfast foods - muffins and cereal and toast. The owner was super nice when I called to book and very friendly as we checked in and left! If you are two couples traveling, this is a perfect place to stay!
There was a lovely view out over the city of Launceston from the pretty gardens behind the unit - and it was basically private to the self-contained unit. Braemere House, Launceston by ATXtraveler I would definitely not call this a true bed and breakfast, but would definitely recommend that you pick this as your destination when coming to Launceston. Braemere really provided us with a great location, and made us feel more like we were staying with family, rather than a drab hotel. Also, at the same time we were treated to a semi stocked fridge, breakfast necessities, laundry facilities, and full cable with sports and movies! All this, with the seclusion of the suburbs and a beautiful view of Launceston!
Towel Warmers were a nice touch, and we liked how many tourism info packets were available to us in the living quarters! Fiona'sB&B by xuessium NOV 2008 LATEST: Fiona's B&B is still around, if not better. The former owners sold the place and it is now in new hands who mercifully, have kept much of the original characters and charms of the B&B. The guest laundrette is gone now, but the caribbean styled kitchen is still there, serving hearty breakfasts. The rooms have been given a polish and certainly went up an upmarkety notch, with lots of fine little touches and details. 2001 Review: The hosts George and Fiona were simply great! Wonderful stay at this B&B. Breakfast in a caribbean styled kitchen where you get pampered with choices. The rooms are spacious and tidy and those on the ground floor have access to the small but flourishing garden behind. The B&B has a laundrette for doing your own washing as well. The daughter runs an Italian pasta place down the road; good chow for the hungry.
2001 Review: Great hospitality and services. 2008 Review: Still great hospitality and services. The gardens and hedges are still plenty and when I was last there, the air was pregnant with the most wonderful aroma of lemon blooms. TheTRCLodge by xuessium NOV 2008 LATEST: Rose Lodge is no more. Time rushes everything by. The property is now renamed the TRC Lodge. Review from 2001: This is a B&B on the lower end. My mates and I managed to grab the cabin which was good for 4 persons and came with refrigerator, microwave, toaster and a little garden at the back. Breakfast meant a packet of bread with jam and butter; nothing obstentatious. It was actually a very nice stay, as the host was very kind though the furnishment and decoration in the cabin reminded us of the 60s! We even stumbled upon some games from that era which amused us no ends. The owner was Joan Humphreys.
Review from 2001: That 60s feel!

BUG by xuessium The BUG Australia guide is both a great guidebook & forum to tap for reviews from folks who had actually stayed at the hostels you are looking for. Very comprehensive and useful!

Booked over the internet and everything confirmed by email. When arrived I was shown to a massive room with an ensuite - all for $75:00 a night. There is a great bistro downstairs and the hotel is centrally located to the main attractions of Launceston.
Great food downstairs - can get a little noisy on weekends. Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: 191 Charles St, , Launceston, State of Tasmania 72

Clean tidy well run hostel. Rooms near the common room and kitchen can get a little bit noisy, but other than than it was pretty good. Large kitchen and dinning room, coin operated internet. About a 10 minute walk from the main street. If you are coming form the airport get a shuttle bus, it is a really expensive taxi ride.

The campsites at the back of the park were a little cramped (the park was almost totally full though) but it was a quiet area away from the centre of town but not far to drive into Launceston. At night there were rabbits everywhere playing in the playground (I wonder if they tried out the slide LOL). It looked very nice & rural (except there were wallabies eating all beside the roads when we only drove a few kms at night and that was quite worrying, as we almost hit one) Theme: CampgroundPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Approx 12 kms North West of Launceston.

We have stayed in this hotel many times, when we were younger it was a common destination for us! This time, we had the kids, and it was perfect. It was friendly, and the kids were really welcome! The service was great, the rooms clean and spacious, and the grounds were neat and tidy. We had 5 days here, and wished we could stay longer. We are already planning to return there next month.
Perfect for families! The swimming pool/spa/sauna is in one complex, and we went there twice a day. It was a great way to start and finish the day, and one of the highlights of the vacation for our children. The pool is heavily chlorinated though, so come prepared. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant one night, and the food was good pub (counter meal) style food. The best part though, was the jumping casle!! The kids were able to go into a semi enclosed area, and burn off all that energy that can sometimes make family dining a less than wonderful experience! lol There were about half a dozen children there the night we went, and it was fantastic. We et them run loose until their meals arrived, and after they ate, they went back to continue playing while we finished our meal. The other great thing was the playground. It's all enclosed, and the kids were happy and safe playing outside. If you are travelling with youngsters, request room 37...it is right next to the playground!
