This was a terrible experience. The manager was horrible and rude. He upped the price when we arrived, so I had to pay the online booking fee on hostelbookers.com plus the full price and the extra he added on top. I assume he just wanted some extra cash for himself. When we finally got into out room, he said we must be quiet when we arrive back later. We agreed- no argument there. But he still felt it necessary to threaten us with his cop friend who is 'really big' 158 pounds or something if we weren't quiet. He then told us he has a malignant tumor in his mouth. Hmm..
He advised us check out was 12pm the next day, but in the morning used his key to let himself into our room just after 10.30 and told us to get out because he wants to go back to Melbourne. So very unprofessional and this very unstable guy should not be managing things. Horrible!
The actuall room was fine. Small but cozy. The toliet didnt lock or flush properly. Kitchen/ lounge area looked fine. But is it worth it... hmm.
Unique Quality: Nothing at all outstanding, apart from the exceptionally bad service.
Directions: Good location. Only 10-15 min walk to cbd.
Buzza's is an excellent option for the budget traveller. It's central, clean and well facilitated with everything a self catering traveller needs.
Unique Quality: The well equiped kitchen was a positive first sign. Here I was able to cook up a real hearty meal after days of exhustive travel. The dorms are basic, but not crampted, some have a desk. The spectacularly light spires of the neo-Gothic Bendigo Cathedral are in full view from the hostel lounge.
Directions: A few minutes walk south of the city centre.
