geelong bed service

I stayed several nights in April 2008. The facilities and amenities were good, but the overall service in the restaurant area was poor. On two consecutive nights I ate in the restaurant and can only describe the service and attitude as unacceptable.

On both nights refreshments were ordered before the meal - on the first night they did not turn up at all, and on the second night the order delivered was incorrect notwithstanding the order was clearly given and specified due to the previous night's debacle.

On both nights, when requesting a table, I was given a curt instruction to "follow me" and stuck behind a pillar in a nearly empty restaurant.

On both occasions the attitude appeared to be one of' having to do the job' and in no way was it welcoming. I observed the restaurant staff over two nights and rarely saw a smile from any in the course of their duties. Obviously Hospitality training was not a prerequiste for the job.

I would not reccomend this hotel .

Unique Quality: The rooms were good, the dining area itself acceptable, as were the meals

Mercure Hotel, Geelong Landmark

The Mercure Hotel, on the corner of Gheringhap and Myers St., has accomodation aplenty.

It also has function rooms available for hire. I have attended a few functions at The Mercure Hotel.

One function we attended at The Mercure Hotel was the Neighborhood House Association forum, where people from Neighborhood Houses all over Victoria came to Geelong for a weekend. We all got to share ideas, stories and got to meet a lot of people from other places around Victoria. Great weekend! Great function rooms at The Mercure Hotel.

Unique Quality: The Mercure Hotel provides great accomodation. There is a nice patio area with a pool. Meals are excellent.

Long standing

I have not actually stayed at this hotel, but it is a landmark of Geelong. I have never heard a word about poor srevice or read anything bad about this hotel in the paper. I've heard from many people that their facilities are excellent, as is the restaurant.

Unique Quality: Parking, restaurant, swimming pool, meeting/functions room. Foxtel available in all rooms. It is the tallest building in Geelong.
