Surf City Motel by ATXtraveler I was looking for a good weekend rate motel to save myself from driving a couple hours back to my house in the middle of rush hour, so we chose the Torquay Surf City Motel. This was a great little hotel, which was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and it was within walking distance of several restaurants. I would recommend it if your travels send you to Torquay!

by richiecdisc Right across from the beach, close to cheap eateries, and a short tram into Melbourne. Theme: HotelComparison: less expensive than averageDirections: When staying in Melbourne, it's often more pleasant to stay a short tram ride away in St. Kilda. by keeweechic I lived in Melbourne on two separate occasions but while relocating both to and from, I had cause to stay temporarily in hotels. These are the ones I stayed in. Hilton on the Park 192 Wellington Pde, East Melbourne. Within a short walking distance to the city centre. Bars, Restaurants, Night Club. The Grand Hyatt 123 Collins St, Melbourne I just love any Hyatt - especially the bathrooms. Right up the Paris End of Collins Street of the city. The upper rooms have fabulous views. There is a nightclub 'Monsoons', great restaurants and bars. Also a great food court on the lower level. Stamford Plaza Melbourne (formerly Oakford Apartments) Paris end of Little Collins Street, Melbourne. These are self contained luxury apartments complete with full kitchen and jacuzzi spa, a separate lounge and dining area. There is also restaurants/bars and rooms service. . Theme: Hotel

by keeweechic The Alzburg is Set on 1.4 hectares just a 20 minute drive from the entrance to Mt Buller. There are 54 motel units and 4 luxury suites. The main building was actually a convent, Our Lady of Mercy which was built in 1891. I organised a car rally for my work social club one year and it was a blast. We ended up at the Alzburg and they were able to cater for our large rowdy group with facilties for swimming, volley ball and a great dinner/dance that night. . by keeweechic The Shamrock Hotel is famous to Bendigo and was opened in 1854 at the height of the gold mining boom in Bendigo. Later on a concert hall and theatre were added. Top artists used to play at the concert hall. In 1858 during a renovation of the hotel a fire gutted the hotel but a new hotel was built in 1860 along with an 800 seat concert hall. Yet again in 1896 a new Shamrock Hotel was built and is the existing hotel there now. Fully refurbished in a style of days gone by, it offers first class accommodation, a bistro, bar and Diamond Lils Tabaret Pokies. You can eve get a tour of the hotel for around $5.00. I stayed here for 5 nights in August 2005. The rooms were well appointed though not particularly luxurious and looked as though they were due for refurbishment. We were lucky enough to have a balcony room overlooking the Bourke St ski run, which was gorgeous to look out at. The two restaurants - Black Cockatoo and Apres bar were excellent. Complimentary buffet breakfast at the Black Cockatoo was included with our room rate. Room service menu extensive and based on the menu available at the Apres Bar (try the beef espetada!). The hotel also includes pool, spa and sauna facilities. Spent some very relaxing afternoons in the spa watching the snow falling outside. There is also a fitness centre, squash court and small library. The hotel is conveniently located 50m from the village square, and near the base of the Blue Bullet chairlift. My only complaint was that the standard of housekeeping left a little to be desired. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. I paid AUD400 per night for the room, we stayed during the peak ski season. Olembia is a very nice backpackers with lots of character. Dorms are of medium size with comfortable beds. Bathrooms are shared, but there are plenty of them on a floor. There's a cosy living room with an open fire place and the big kitchen is clean and well equipped. Staff is friendly and helpful.

We stayed in Halls Gaps when we visited the Grampians, and happened to stumble across this new hotel when we were travelling around the Grampians. It's in Dunkeld, which is south of the Grampians. The hotel looks nice, but we want to try the cottages..they're new and secluded. The restaurant was great...an excellent stopover if you don't stay...
