I have forgotten the name of this place, but it is not far from the YHA-hostel. If anyone know the name, please let me know. We stayed here one night. It was a great place, that we found when the YHA-hostel was full. We stayed in a female-only dormitory with 4 beds and we paied AUS $25 (year 1998). The hostel has some great balconies, where you can relax and enjoy the views of Lorne. Leave a Comment

This is possibly the only beach fronted accomodation in Lorne. We choose this against the famous Cumberland Resort, becos of its apartment style. The working part of the hotel is made of very old building, more than 100 years old, which was built by the Mountjoy family in the 1860s.
The accomodation is brand new (some are still under construction which can be an eye sore) but security is very good. You can enter property only with security swipe cards, and the apartment is well apointed. Nice comfoy bed, and brand new toilets - there is spa even on the bath tubs, and modern looking. There is a small balcony to sit and look into the greens. A small rusty gate takes you to the beach. We had breakfats at the dining room - the cereals, yoghurts and fruit salad, juices are buffet styled. The waitress come and get your hot meal order, and it was huge serving and rather delicious. cheers to that!!! We had booked at the Grand Pacific Hotel, which is a great deal if you're trying to save $$...but we checked out the Cumberland Resort while we were there...and it was great. It's right in the middle of town with all of the restaurants, cafe and shopping...and the rooms overlooked the water and were worth the $$...and the Aqua Restaurant was very posh.

Most hotels are expensive along the Great Ocean Road...but the Grand Pacific Hotel was quite reasonable... It was just refurbished when we went in 2005...and the rooms were boutique styled, comfy, small but very chic. The restaurant was excellent...and the cafe was nice to hang at during the day. We ate dinner on a sat nite when they had jazz.... The pier is located right across the street for fishing...and the Lorne NP is a great place to trek. The only drawback...it wasn't located in the middle of town with all of the cafes, etc...but it wasn't that far to walk. (3Ks?)

We arrived at the B & B late afternoon and enquired if a room was available for the night. We asked to have a look at the room and were immediately taken to the room and also shown the breakfast dining room. The bedroom was beautifully fitted out, plenty of room, TV etc. There were 4 rooms in this recently built section adjoining the main house and on the ground floor was a community lounge with kitchen where you could make your tea and coffee and biscuits were supplied. The Breakfast room was well furnished with plenty of room between the tables and you are able to order a hot or cold breakfast, plus cereal, home made fruit salad etc etc. The B&B is located on a hill immediately overlooking Lorne and is surrounded by large gum trees with an abundance of birdlife, and you can walk down to the town centre which is 5 minutes away. We stayed mid week and were charged Au $100, discounted from normal rates applied during summer and school holidays. A most enjoyable stopover which I can recommend to all.
Bushland setting surrounds the old but recently renovated home, plenty of parrots and cockeys to greet you in the morning followed by an excellent breakfast.
