Situated in a converted warehouse, the Adelphi is spare and calm in design. Yet every modern comfort is generously provided for, including all technological developments
Unique Quality: Award winning restaurant on premises (3 hats), cafe/lounge and an exclusive members and inhouse gueat club bar on Level 10 that overlooks the rooftops and spires of the city.
34 spacious rooms fully equipped with high speed internet dial, cd player, voice mail, mini bar and 24 hour room service.
Bvlgari products compliment all bathrooms. For relaxation the hotel offers a heated salt water 25 meter glass ended roof level lap pool that cantilevers over the street, a sauna and fitness room.
The “New” Adelphi is essentially a building site, the buildings on either side have been torn down so it’s incredibly noisy, forget sleeping through it. This was never mentioned when I booked. You can’t open the windows or even the blinds at all. The ear plugs supplied don’t stop the building shaking. My room rate ended up being twice what it was advertised for and worse still, the longer I staid the higher the rate was!
The general staff were very nice but the hotel manager and housekeeper give the place an oppressive, Germanic feel, the customer service, if you could call it that is similar to Westpac bank. There is no restaurant and the only night we went to their “bar” Both beers were out. My safe was “Reset” with my passport in it and the Wi-Fi costs were amusing. Choosing this hotel ruined my experience of an amazing city. It’s important we can share our experiences and for me it’s refreshing to be able to do so.
The location is excellent and this was the reason for giving this place a go. Upon reflection it should have range alarm bells when we checked in and found earplugs next to the bed as neither of us have seen this before.
The hotel and the rooms were very art deco, but the rooms were very stark and not particularly warming or comfortable. Costs of mini bar and wi-fi were high (really, how much does internet really cost these days) even down to charging for milk.
The pool is nothing more than a lap pool which extends about one metre over the edge of the road, so dont be overly impressed by the advertising on this.
The windows and walls per paper thin and the earplugs did not seem to work at all in drowning out the street noise and the noise of the television coming from the room next door. We gave up at around 1 in the morning and ended up driving home to get some sleep.
Overall one of most disappointing places I have ever stayed and I would highly suggest looking elsewhere.

I didn't actually stay here but since it was right behind where i lived I took the opportunity to check it out when my parents were planning on coming down. owing to its popularity as a 'boutique hotel', its concept is minimalist with awkward angles. The concierge gave me a short tour of the room. Yeah the room provides designer bathrobes and toiletries but it had a very stark feel to it. furniture was brightly colored and did not feel inviting. perhaps i'm not artsy enough
Unique Quality: clear bottom pool that jutts out unto flinders lane. unlike it's pictures that suggest otherwise, in actuality only 5% of the pool jutts out. and it's just a lap pool. so meaning, by my (probably inaccurate) estimation, the pool was about 50m by 2m but the portion that sticks out is onyl 2m by 1m.very tiny. i suppose the plus point would be that its on the roof and night swimming would be pretty awesome.i also vaguely remember the supporting beams going rusty.
Directions: On flinders lane, in between swanston st and russell st.
I was here on business, as many mid-week guests are, but its a great, boutique hotel for couples as well. Not recommended for kids or families. Very convenient location and good room service!
Unique Quality: Architectural icon of Melbourne, recognised on the international architect circuit, but should wow even the most blaise of guests. Check-out time is 11am (better than the usual 10am). Service is great, personalised, boutique-style. Outdoor saltwater rooftop, lap pool, 24hr room service ;0)
