More about Best Western Atlantis Hotel

Simple and functional

by TripAdvisor Member traveller365

Stayed at this property for 4 nights during the Melbourne cup.
If ur expection are sheer luxury, dont read on!!!
This hotel is simple, functional and comfortable.
Staff maning the reception are not exactly friendly but will answer whatever queries u have the best they can,
No great luxury here,a simple room with simple neat furniture and a simple clean bathroom with just a shower. Location is good, not great, one plus though is that it is exactly opposite the skybus station which gets you from the melbourne airport to the city.
Tram stops just outside the hotel and the free City tram for tourists stops at the right hand corner from the hotel a minute away.

Excellent Value

We stayed at the Atlantis for 5 nights (27 Nov-2 Dec). We booked a Grand View Suite with a Queen bed and rollaway for our young daughter. The room was well presented and kept clean. The view from the full length window was superb. We could never tell if the people below could see into the rooms with the mirrored windows and lights on, if so I apologies for my underwear!!! The breakfast was basic being cereal and toast but there are eateries close by. The hotel is located at the top end of Spencer Street a 5 min walk from Southern Cross Station for trains/airport buses. The free tourist tram is minutes away as are the local trams. Overall the hotel provided a good base to explore. The staff were all helpful and we feel that we would be happy to stay here again. Stop press for all you who love to shop. Across from the hotel above the train/bus station a brand new 'named' outlet mall has just opened.

Simple, no fuss, near telstra dome

by TripAdvisor Member kopiboy

Stayed at this hotel for two nights when i visited Melbourne for the U2 concert. Hotel is simple, clean and functional. Staff were not the friendliest but were very helpful with special requests. Great location if going for events at Telstra Dome or the Docklands, as it was only a 5 to 10 minute walk away. However, it would be alonger walk to the other touristy spots in Melbourne city centre, although the free tram service stops just across the road.

Clean & Tidy

by TripAdvisor Member mattyjnz

Stayed here at the end of Jan - Australian Open tennis finals weekend. Hotel is clean and tidy, rooms and bathroom are both a reasonable size and bed is comfortable.

Close to Docklands area and Telstra Dome, however thought it was on the wrong side of the city/CBD - if you want to be in the thick of the action best to stay in a hotel on the east side of the CBD. Also, there are not many places in the immediate area for breakfast if you don't want to eat at the hotel (A$8 continental breakfast which is quite reasonable).

Staff seemed ok, but didn't really have anything to do with them from the day we checked in to the day we checked out.

Free tram stops close to the hotel and is good value if you are tired of walking, but it only runs from 10am to 6pm most days which is too late to utilise it for breakfast and too early for dinner, so proved useless really.

Couple of good restaurants to check out - for breakfast try Cafe Sergovia in Block Place (off Little Collins) and for dinner try Tiamo a nice Italian place in Lygon Street - no spruikers here trying to bluff you into their restaurant. Portions are enormous and great value.

Had heard great things about Melbourne so thought I should check it out, but personally found it a bit "ho-hum" - especially on a weekend when it was hosting one of the cities/worlds biggest sports tournaments - didn't really seem to have much of a buzz about it.

Good hotel average location

by TripAdvisor Member Scottiboy

Stayed at the Atlantis for 5 days during a 3 week holiday around Australia and found it to be a good base to explore from.

The hotel itself is clean and functional if a bit basic, but it is excellent value for money so no complaints. Comfy bed, good air con and a good bathroom with walk in power shower (all you really need for a place to lay your head).

The location is handy for the Telstra Dome & harbourside restaurants & development, however it is a bit out of town. This is compensated for by the free tram service right outside the hotel that runs right into the centre of town, very handy. Also trams can be cought to other locations for a very reasonable price if you buy the all day metcard, which allows you to use buses trains and trams all day.

Staff were friendly & helpful and made our stay pleasureable.

I would recommend this hotel if you don't mind a bit of a walk or tram ride to town, however if you have to be right in the action then go elsewhere

Moderately priced and excellent value. Rooms are large, clean and modern. Friendly and helpful staff. Good location near city center and convenient to public transportation and airport shuttle. Wired broadband internet in all rooms (wireless in lobby) is fast and reasonably priced.

Great Value

We stayed for a total of 4 nights at Atlantis back in 2003. Wonderful location close to Queen Victoria's Market, the Free Tram service, Flinders Street Station and Airport Shuttle. It's seems a little dingy at night though, but it's okay. The rooms were large, neat and clean, with a great view outside of the new port. All this for a sweet price of around AUD80.00 then, including breakfast! Would definitely want to go back there again.

Good Value, be careful though

by TripAdvisor Member Trekkersocal

We spent a total of 2 nights at the Atlantis hotel. This was located on Spencer Street about 2 blocks north of the South Street Station (spencer). The rooms were "interesting", they looked like converted apartment rooms (in fact, the top floors were an apartment). There were two beds, bathroom, we had no desk in our room, and a refrigerator. We did not have a bathtub but somehow ended up in a wheel-chair accessible room. The room was clean and quiet.

There was breakfast offered at 8AUD on the floor. They also have covered parking available at 10AUD/night. The location
was convenient - you had trams nearby as well as the train station and you could take the citylink into Flinders Street station.

Staff was not particularly helpful, in fact probably not too informed. We had a problem with check-out, they did not tell us our complete charge and when we headed home we found we were charged more than the receipt had stated - they had not charged our parking fees but ended up charging more than the number of nights we were there. We had to contact Best Western and spend about 1 hour on the phone sorting it out. Ultimately, it was sorted out so be careful when you check out and make sure that they go over all the expenses .. they did not and did not even record it.

I think this was a decent hotel and not expensive for Melbourne, but the receptionist was not good, and the rooms were probably
more overpriced than if you were a little farther out - for its location it is still considered a good value, but we would probably choose
another place.

Value for $$$

We stayed here on our first night in Melbourne. We got an early flight and reached the hotel at about 7am, the concierge checked us in and gave us our room. We really appreciate that if not we'll be sleeping on the street. The room itself is nicely furnished and has all the amenities you need. Atlantis is within walking distance to Southern Cross Station and the new DFO at Spencer St. The breakfast was okay but I wish they could throw in some cold cuts though. There seems to be some construction going on beside the hotel.

Excellent value, decent location

by TripAdvisor Member bayarea123

We found a great rate (directly on their website) which included breakfast. This hotel is within walking distance to Spencer Street Station making it very convenient (we took the Skybus from the airport). It's also on the free trolley line to get to the sites.

The room itself was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was adequate to start the day. We only spent 2 nights in Melbourne and this was a good value place for us. For those who want to be walking distance to all the sites, this may not be the best place. For us, it worked and we would recommend it.
