Mt Buller
by Terry_Ching
Planning to visit Mt Buller on 08 Oct 2009. But checked the season end on 4 Oct 2009, will there be any snow left? I just want to feel/touch the snow without skiing.
Do i still need to pay the entry fees?
Thanks

Yes there will be snow left. They have 58cm of snow and today they had four lifts running but as you say the season ends on the 4th. I don't know about the entry fee though.

There is an entry fee per car onto the mountain. Not sure the current fee but you will be charged.

We had quite a lot of snow last weekend and the season got extended a bit. There should still be snow at Mt B on 8/10. Don't know about entry fees or if the chair lifts will still be operating.

Snow season has been extended at Buller I heard this morning. Probably only by a week though.

You will have to pay the park fees and it is per car. I dont know about Mt Buller but Falls Creek was about $17 per car a couple of years back. As others have said there is still some snow yet but you see things start to warm up /wind down early October. This year however, there has been a last minute freak cold wind change from the Artic thislong weekend, and its dropped a bunch of snow - so you're in luck !! Enjoy
Travel Tips for Melbourne

The National Gallery of Victoria is an interesting museum. It looks a bit like a modern stone fortress. There are both European works, such as Monet, Pissarro, Turner and some Australian works. I believe Monday is the free day. For those interested in commercial architecture, I.M. Pei’s only building in Australia is Collins Place. The Rialto Towers is the tall blue building that was reported the target of Al-Qaeda terrorists who planned to crash a commercial airliner into the building.

The very scenic 'Great Ocean Road', runs for some 300km from just outside Geelong through to Warrnambool on the south coast of Victoria.
A drive along here will provide you some of the most beautiful scenery in Australia.
For most of the 300km., the road hungs the coast line giving a spectacular ride for the passengers, but not raccomanded for the driver as the road certainly needs to be driven with care.
Along the road, you will find many stopping places to take a look, many private and secluded beaches. If you want to find somewhere private, well there is enough room for everyone.
Along the Great Ocean Road, are whats called 'The Twelve Apostles'. These are large lumps of land scatterd into the sea, sadly no longer 12 but only about 9 remaining and are getting smaller as time passes.

take a side-trip and drive down south of Melbourne to THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD to catch the most SPECTACULAR views of a row of great stone pillars emerging from the sea! I have NEVER seen such unbelievable scenery any where else in the world - yet. Driving there deserves an entire chapter altogether! The winding narrow roads will only allow vehicles to move at 35 km per hour... so needless to add, by the time we reached the first of the many spectacular rocks, The 12 Apostles, it was 4 hours later!
P.S. That's me with my Australian aunt and cousin doubling up as my tour guides. Kudos to them.
Packing List
by hokeypokey
You don't actually need to pack too many warm clothes if you're travelling in winter. Currently we have about 20 degrees (but locals still wear thick sweaters and gloves (???)) While i'm running around in t-shirt!! So if you're coming from some country as far north as northern Europe you'll still find it somewhat summerlike. Hiking
Beaches near the city
by RedShoes
Melbourne is on Port Phillip Bay. There are great beaches outside of the city that are very nice such as Sorrento beach. Be aware that there are big waves here though. Close to the city centre is St. Kilda beach which is nice to walk and bike around, but I wouldn't swim in the bay there. I like Torquay beach also and the drive there on Great Ocean Road is beautiful.
