Suggestion for accomodation

Any recommendation for clean budget hotel / guesthouse either in city or near public transport to get into city? Budget between 30-50 per pax (for 2 pax).

Tracy we are going to be in Melbourne this weekend. I will have a scout around and let you know once I have checked out some places.
And be aware it is going to be very very cold in Melbourne in July- so be warmly prepared.

why don't you have a look at wotif.com - although you can only book about 20 days before
i recently found a nice hotel (for 2) called the pensione for $90

Wee Tracy- I had a look around- and very near to we were staying, I came across
the City Centre Budget Hotel (in Collins Stree) near the 'top end' of town.
It looks good for the price (A$90.00) per night (double room)
The area is lovely, and is within walking distance of some interesting places, and restuarants & shope etc.

Thanks for all your help. After going through a series of research on the internet, I finally have the accommodation sorted out - Pensione Hotel @ average of $96 per night (this is with a 3N saver package).

i'm sure you'll like it - it is newly renovated and a good location - with southern cross station and the free tram close by

Hi Jennifer!
I intend to take the Skybus from airport which go to Southern Cross station. I might book a return trip for the Skybus.
Can you let me know how far is the hotel from the station and is it an easy walk to and fro? (Read somewhere it is an uphill walk to the station???)

it is cheaper to book a return on skybus so you might as well
i would have called the walk to the pensione slightly! down hill if anything
central melbourne is rather flat
a very easy walk - maybe 5 mkinutes, maybe less
just as long as you are going the right way - which i wasn't sure of as i came out of the station

Vietnamese neighborhood

Like Sydney, not many people actually live in Melbourne. Most live in the suburbs and come to work, shop, and play in Melbourne. You can drive down Victoria to the suburb of Richmond, however. The main drag seems almost like a page from Hanoi. It doesn't stay as Vietnamese when you get off Victoria, but no matter which section you want to be in, you can see a little of how people in the area live. Sadly, I had waited until the last day before leaving to come out here. if I had it to do over again, I would have spent more time in the suburbs and less in Melbourne. A conversation I had in the grocery store while buying TimTams.

having now lived in Melbourne for about half of my life I have many fond memories.
thats more a personal thing but what I can say is I'm sure is I could find some thing to make you like my city as much as I do.

Four Seasons in One Day

Take a bit of everything. Melbourne is renowned for being the city that experiences all four seasons in one day. It can get quite cold, by comparison to other Australia states. My tip, be prepared, wear jeans and a t-shirt but take a jacket/jumper and an umbrella, wearing your bathers underneath!
