Grampians

by ysl77

Hi,

I am thinking of making a day trip to Grampians with coach tour agency. I saw waterfalls, trees, etc from their website's photos. Wonder if anyone can advise me on what I expect to see at Grampians? And does it worth doing a day tour of 99AUD there?

Thank You So Much! =)

Yes, I think it is worth doing the trip to the Grampians. There are water falls and trees etc.
It's a lovely area. I am pretty sure they will take you to see the Kangaroos there as well.
The trip from Melbourne to the Grampians is good as you see some rural farming areas, sheep in paddocks with gumtrees, grains growing in paddocks and a wild emu here and there, when I go along this route I think this scenery shows one of the state of Victoria's theme of Australia.(The other trip that shows another great scene is the Great Ocean Road.)
This area ( Grampains, Western District) has been in drought for many years and a lot of the small lakes are now dry/gone. But it still has a beauty of it's own.
Have a great day out.

Yeah worth it. One of my favourite places in Victoria. Not sure if the waterfalls are actually dried up. Last time I went in summer (Dec/Jan) the creeks and waterfalls were dry. Aside from that the scenery is fantastic.
Enjoy

Agree with previous poster's that the Grampian's are one of the nicest places to visit in Victoria, however doing in a day will mean travelling a good 5-6 hours in a bus. I love staying overnight so I get to see the stars at night time in a sky free of city lights and pollution, seeing kangaroos at dusk and waking up in the morning to fresh air. There are some great walks to do as well and doing a day trip will mean you miss out, so based on that I would not do a day trip.

There are also numerous koalas in the trees, I remember seeing a man climb a gum tree to touch the koala and the animal peed about a gallon on the man,s head! He quickly changed his mind about climbing any further.

Travel Tips for Melbourne

Street entertainers

by dlandt

These were from Bolivia, they weren't bad. Most of their songs used the Pan flute. This kind ofo thing is fairly common in Melbourne during the nice weather. The scene could have been lifted from any other western city, but it was pleasant.

Melbourne's Public Toilet

by eviltooth

Favourite thing about Melbourne? Clean public toilets. :)

If you can't stand dirty toilets (I doubt anyone can ;)), be rest assured that those in Melbourne are extremely clean, even the one at the market. Some even have a nice smell and I'm not being sarcastic. ;)

I saw this pic in my sis' PC. She's doing her archi. project on public toilet. ;) This one is next to the Melbourne Town Hall at Collins Street. You'll find a number of them dotting the city.

by boroughboy74

Tipping is not customary in Australia as workers in service related professions are covered by award wages.

However, workers do appreciate tips if you feel that they have given you exceptional service, or if you are in a large group of people who have just eaten at a restaurant.

As a guide, tips are normally given as 10 per cent of the total bill.

Row, row, row your boat...

by dracko

If you're strolling along the South Bank and feel like some exercise of a different sort, stop by the boathouses that are there, right by the Flinders Station Bridge. At least one of the boathouses that is owned by a local rowing club will rent you (or you and several of your buddies) a boat and will teach you the intricacies of crew. Bring clothes that you wouldn't mind getting wet.

St kilda Road - -

by take_it_eazie

lt's the city's world famous boulevard. get there by a traditional tram and find out more abt St kilda Rd. You wont be disappointed . There are shops along both side of the street , you wont be bored ,However if you walk a little longer you 'll find a beach ( the sea wasnt very nice .lt looked a bit dirty ....l think Bondi beach look better )
