Will It Be Cheaper To Hire Snow Costume In Mansfield?
by wjn
Hi I am the fist timer to the snow mountain and pls advise me here:-
Q1. Do we need to hire snow jacket and pant if we are just a sightseer?
Q2. Will it be cheaper and advisable to hire all the necessary gear at Mansfield?

If you are not skiing & only going for a day trip you can probably get away with a couple of layers of warm clothing, warm gloves & a waterproof jacket. But the most important item is good sturdy footwear, ie hiking boots, preferably also waterproof. As long as your feet & hands stay warm & dry you should be OK. If you do decide to hire clothing it is cheaper in Mansfield that on the mountain. Hope you have a great time.

Agree with previous poster. So long as you take close fitting shoes (boots better as per previous) you should be OK, however I suggest you also take a change of footwear in case first pair becomes wet and cold. If you want to save money, have a few plastic bags to put over normal gloves and then tie with cord/string. You'll still be able to have fun in the snow without getting hands cold that way. Might look funny, but it does work. Also a big plastic sheet can make a great cover to let you slide down a slope. Toss away in a bin at the end of the day.
Have fun

Travel Tips for Melbourne

go to a game of Aussie Rules Football. It is the highlight of most locals week and it shows you an insight into the Melbourne culture. :-) The best place to watch the Footy is at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) in the great southern stand. are all the parks and gardens and all the different shopping centres everywhere. All the restaurants are great, you name a culture/country and there will be one with the cuisine, there is even a Jamaican restaurant near the city centre!

go shopping! Melbourne is well-supplied with all manner of shops, from huge department stores to quirky little ones. The city centre is well-supplied with shops, including the Melbourne Central mall (there's a website at
www.melbournecentralshopping.com), and the enormous Myer department store.
It's also well worth checking your guidebook to see if you should hop on a tram to one of the inner suburbs too; for example, Acland St in St Kilda is famous for its cake shops - yum!
Footy
by chennaismartguy
Apart from Cricket these people like 'Footy' many of us known as Australian Football. The Footy seasons starts (hope) during the month of Feb & March and goes until August. Almost every weekend there is match at the 'Telstra Dome' Indoor stadium (One of its class). Just buy a ticket to know how they play the Footy....you will be quite amazed...and will soon like it.
Packing List
by paola9
It is always good to have some extra space in your backpack as there's always something to buy at Melbourne. Backpacks are easy to carry around and have lots of space. Don't bring any big luggage if you're doing backpacking...it's sort of annoying trying to move around with them on the public transport. A sweater, a pair of warm pants, and comfy shoes are a must. Weather in Melb is changing all the time so u never know what to wear. It's a pretty cold city even in early summer...it gets better and warmer by late december though. Lots of film!! Many interesting buildings and funky sculptures around the city. If u happen to be in Melb before travelling to other cities in Australia i'd recommend to buy most of your film here as it is cheaper. There are some camera shops on Elizabeth Street where u can get film for good prices. An umbrella or poncho is a must if not here during summer time. It rains a lot
Baklava
by Rosie-o
Melbourne is a multicultural city, but the biggest non-Anglo ethnic group is the Greek community. I grew up in a Greek suburb called Oakleigh ... apart from being a nice (albeit a tad suburban) place to grow up Oakleigh has fantastic Greek cuisine. My favourite Greek food is baklava cakes - rose water almonds and pastry - and Oakleigh quality cakes is the best for a yummy baklava and a coffee.
