Elegant Hotel, Casino, Shopping, Restaurants

We arrived by limousine , the doorman opened the door with a flourish, a Casino representative greeted us, and before long we were sipping a drink in the Mahogany Room.

Yes I love staying in Crown Towers. I love the location, the restaurant, and the shopping further along the river Bank.(Southbank)

It is located within walking distance of Melbourne proper and the railway station is close by.

There are very nice restaurants along the walkway and a cinema as well. Upstairs there are even pub meals.

Of course all services are available in this hotel..it is a wee bit upmarket.

Unique Quality: The foyer area near the stairs is quite dark and hushed. Be still...people are gambling nearby!

And not far away is the T.W.R. or The Waiting Room....we were surprised to find you could buy a nice little Guinness pie as a snack besides the more elegant cocktails and wines.

Top Melbourne Hotel

Have stayed on many occasions as recently as last week .Great location near to many good restaurants and attractions of the city.Service very good, especially in the Mesh Restaurant. The breakfasts are a highlight!
Had a word to the Duty Manager about the enthusiastic cleaning staff.Knocking on door at 8.30am to service the room. Not too good for a five star establishment.
Other than that always enjoy our stay

Unique Quality: Location,location,location.

Great City Hotel

Celebrated my birthday, by booking a room here. Really nice hotel, clean, slick, modern. Fabulous indoor pool and gym facilities, on third floor. I booked a 'corner' room, which guarantees you WILL get a great view of Melbourne and not just through one window, but two! On 16th, out of 23 floors. Very spacious room, king size bed, desk, tv & play station (!) mini bar, lounge chairs, huge bathroom with shower, broadband internet ($25AU per day), coffee & tea making facilities, phone, large double wardrobe. Online prices were way cheaper, using Crown's website, than actually phoning hotel & booking, (I checked 1st), or using other hotel websites! Make sure you shop around for a good price. Valet parking (you have to pay extra to park, for each 24 hrs your vehicle is there, but the price was good), quick, easy check in and good concierge facilities/knowledge. Mesh restaurant available on site, for all meals (& room service) & a cocktail bar, right next to that. Only had breakfast at Mesh, but it was great. Good range and nice hot choices too, not soggy or dry, but just right. Brekky to 11am. Cocktails at the bar are basically at same as regular bar prices, so no surprises there and good range of cocktails/wines/beers. Only 5 tables outside the cocktail bar, but when it's hot in Melbourne, you want to be in the airconditioned area, anyway! Overall, I can highly recommend this hotel. Oh, and it's right across the road, from the Crown Casino & Hotel, 1 block from Southbank and the Yarra River.

Unique Quality: The pool here is just wonderful.
Large pool, plenty of lounge/deck chairs, sunny outside areas to tan yourself, but the pool itself is indoors. You have to use your electronic key to enter and then sign in and out, but that, to me, is a good safety feature. Staff at desk, check again, to make sure you are a guest. One girl tried to sneak in with us "Ooops, I forgot my key!" which made us suspicious, but the staff picked it up, straight away and she beat a hasty retreat.

Concierges are very polite and helpful and tip worthy!

This location is close to everything Melbourne has to offer.

Luxury at its best.

The Crown Towers is located on the Yarra River at Southbank. Our room 1725 was called a deluxe King Size Corner room which was luxurious with sweeping views of the river and the city skyline.

The hotel is huge which can be slightly impersonal but the service of every staff took away any aloof or cold feelings.

Check in was fast and efficient.

Our room was super spacious with a king size bed, massive plasma TV, working desk, well stocked mini bar, sofa chair plus ottoman, and a very sweet bay window settee. You can watch the gas fireworks from the window which I really enjoyed.

The bathroom was enormous with separate spa bath, shower, toilet and wonderful fluffy towels and toiletries.

The best thing about the Crown is all the fabulous restaurants at your doorstep. You literally have the BEST restaurants in Melbourne within easy walking distance. One could have a ball dining through these top establishments; however you would need to be cashed up, as all are very expensive.

A cool spacious indoor swimming pool is located on the 2nd floor with an attached spa. One does however wonder why they didn’t incorporate an outdoor swimming pool as the pool area is attached to the tennis courts which could literally fit another two 50metre swimming pools on the roof top.

The Casino is also at your doorstep which offers gamblers a little piece of heaven, with blackjack, roulette and a thousand pokies machines supplied.

Unique Quality: Overall – We have stayed at numerous 5 star hotels in Melbourne and to me the Crowne offered a touch more with their facilities at their fingertips. It’s in a fabulous position only a short walk across the bridge to Flinders Street Station and the CBD.
I have given this hotel 5 star for a 5 star hotel.

Favourite Restaurants – Rockpool – Contemporary.
Silks - Chinese
Nobu - Japanese

Crown Casino access!

Unique Quality: The Crown Promenade is a fantastic upscale hotel located in the heart of Melbourne and is connected by skywalk to the Crown Club Casino - the largest casino in the southern hemisphere. This property has everything you could want - good service, great amenities, spa, pool, restaurants, & entertainment. The interior decor definitely complements the gaming atmosphere...dark with Vegas-style lighting and fountains. This is a perfect property if you want to be in the heart of it all and have easy access to the casino.

Crown Promenade

Nothing to complain about at this hotel. It's very conveniently located opposite the Crown Casino with a covered footbridge linking it. Absolutely perfect if you're going to a function there as we did.
Valet parking for 24 hours was included in our package deal along with a buffet breakfast.
After checking lots of different last minute booking sites we got the best deal by booking through the Crown Promenade website.

Unique Quality: We stayed on the 19th floor. Views were great looking out towards the Bay.

Crown Towers hotel at Crown Casino Melbourne

The room was fantastic and clean with a perfect temperature control. The service was quite prompt. You can't bring drinks up from the casino, so its best to leave the complex and find a bottle shop in the city, or plan ahead because the price of the room service wine is astronomical! Dry cleaning is very expensive too. Also, I left my room in the mornings to find breakfast in the Crown complex and got some hassles from drunk guys who had been partying all night. Also I found the corridors and lobby area's of each Hotel floor very smokey, but the room itself was fine. All in all, the room was great and I expecially loved the view!! The windows are bay windows that protrude from the building so you can lie in the window and feel like your hanging off the edge............it rocked!!! The rest of the complex was what you would expect staying at a casino. The light and water show in the main lobby are briliant.

Unique Quality: The view!!! What can I say??!!! And the light and water show.

Mt Buller

by deerixp

I was wondering if it is better if I stay 1 night at the mountain. I had heard of coaches like V Line etc. May I know if it is possible for me to stay at the mountains at affordable rates (include return transportation from Melbourne e.g. Crown Towers to Mt Buller and back plus accomodation)at AUD 130-180 per pax during weekday?

I have heard of YHA at Mt Buller. I believe it fits my budget, however, I have to share a room with others? How's the experience like? I am okie with lodge but would prefer to have a room for 2.

I have narrow my search to these hotels & lodges http://www.mtbuller.com.au/accommodation/ Accomodation Guide

(1)ABOM
(2)Kooroora
(3)Avalanche Alpine Lodge
(4)Duck Inn
(5)Mansfield Ski Club
(6)Merrijig Ski Club
(7)Nutcracker Ski Club
(8)Schuss Ski Club
(9)Ski Club of Victoria
(10)Ski Lib Alpine Club
(11)Terama
(12)YHA
(13)VSL Ski Club

Can kindly provide some feedback with the accomodation with your experience e.g. service, any breakfast and accessibility? I do not ski, just want to have some toboganning and snowplay, snow view. Also, what are the chairlifts for? Do I need to purchase the tickets?

Do you think as a newcomer, I should go for package overnight tour which are more expensive? Is there any recommended operator that provide affordable rates and safe driving?

Thanks alot for your help!

G'day Deer... and welcome to vt!! We'll now you've found us, you've gotta stay around. This is the best site on the net :o) Anyway, I know I recognised that name, Mt. Buller. One of my vt friends has a page on it and it looks gorgeous!! ... except it is on his Falls Creek page. So to get the lo-down, just visit aussiedoug's Falls Creek page, it's fabulous :o) Cheers Ann :o)

Hi. It is better to stay at least a few nights at the mountains. 1 night will be insufficient as there is plenty to do there during the winter season.

You need to purchase lift-tickets depending on the slopes you choose and the days you intend to ski/tobaggon. Also if you want great soaring views, you can also take the ski-lifts for a scenic view of the mountains.

If you want good and great accommodations, I recommmend the ABOM. Facilities-wise is good and hosts are friendly. If you are tight for budget but don't want to stay at a hostel, try the Schuss Ski Club. They rent out rooms for about $60 pp per night. Shared kitchen but warm ambience and host. Ski clubs are good options to stay if you are on a tight budget and want to save on food and expenses. As there is a shared kitchen, you can do your own meals.
