This is truly my favourite Melbourne hotel, and always makes my visit one I look forward to. A few points of difference about this hotel is that unlike your major hotel chains, the Lindrum has a really 'home-like' atmosphere and warm engaging staff who will do their best to cater to each of your needs.
Unique Quality: The hotel offers a fairly extensive "Music Menu" where you can order your favourite CD's up to your room to play on your in-room stereo. Nothing quite like getting ready to go out listening to your favourite music to make you feel at home. There is also the ever-popular "Pillow Menu". One thing I really like about this hotel is the big heavy wooden door you push open to enter the very understated but stylish lobby. The reception doubles as an expresso bar so the smell of fresh coffee is ever-present.
The deluxe rooms do offer views over Melbourne Park, the Botanic Gardens and the MCG.
Furnishings are warm and comfortable, the bed is one of the most comfortable I've slept in! I have now used this hotel for business visits as well as a girl's weekend as it is so central to all of Melbournes sights.
Will be in M during August 2010. Want to stay where the action is downtown.
Restaurants, attractions etc. Can anyone recommend a good one, reasonable.
We are not renting a car. Was there in 2000 no time to see it.
I usually stay at the Mercure Welcome which has entrances in Little Bourke Street and Swanston Street. I've often been able to get a good rate there and the location is as good as it gets, right in the heart of the city. See tip on my Melbourne page, but there are plenty of hotel tips on member's pages that you can check out as well. If you are able to leave making the booking till about two - three weeks in advance of your stay, you will find good bargains on wotif.com.
We recently got a wonderful bargain on Wotif.....sdtayed at 5 star Hotel Windsor, which is in a great location for sights- for a really reasonable price.
See the review on my Melbourne page. Its a magnificent hotel, and the deal was cheaper than most of the 3 and 4 star hotels I had looked at.

Don't know your budget but have a look at The Hotel Lindrum in Flinders St. http://www.hotellindrum.com.au/
The "Victoria Hotel" in Little Collins Street near Swanston Street has always had a good 'medium' quality reputation - very centrally located to central city things - easy walk to South Bank, etc.
Also try "the Nunnery". It is near the Exhibition Building.
thanks for the tip.
We simply love Australia, nicer than europe and
Hi there. Not sure if you've got something sorted yet, but we stayed at an apartment a few months ago in Queen Street (very central). We were just doing a short stay in Melbourne so an apartment was better than a hotel for us.

It's really close to the casino, cafes, theatres, yarra river walk, southbank etc. Good luck and have fun!
thanks for your comments.
