Cheap but safe backpackers accommodation wanted

by buffybird

Ok guys i scored the cheap tickets now need a safe place to stay as its two females up for an sdventure but not at all confident of our combined skills. Ive looked at easystay apartments and a double room there is $99, does anyone know of a cheap but good backpackers where we could mix with others also. We arriving 26th may and only have 3 nights.

Oh and exciting places to visit that are cheap, we are on a budget as i only just get back from KL 2 weeks previously. Yes another impulse buy!

Any information would be fantastic.

Cheers and Happy Easter Heather

Hi,

When I stayed in Melbourne, I stayed at Enfield House in St Kilda's. This is a nice hostel. There are of dorms, singles and twins. It is easily traveling by tram to the city centre.

Address is 2 Enfield Street, St Kilda.
Any information: http://studios92.com/accommodation/EH2.htm.

stay away from Hotel bakpak or hotel discovery as it is now known. The rooms were ok, but the communal bathroom on each floor was disgusting. I stayed a week and noriced the same rubbish lying in the toilets all week.

Mecure Welcome in Swanston Street is good and very central with all the big stores almost next door - well not as big as the famous store in Whereup - LOL

Dave for $86pn i think i will book there, ta for that, i think location is a plus here. I wish i had the confidence to book a car and go ballarat and bendigo for a night but then i think 3 nights melb should give us some things to see.
I would love to do ballarat and sovereign hill with her.

If you can dodge crazed kangaroos and Gnomes, not to mention those winding roads where you are, Melb traffic is a sinch. From the city its really easy to get to both Ballarat and Bendigo - major freeways. The only trouble with Melb is the trams - they don't take prisoners - LOL You would only need to put up with Melb traffic for about half an hour if you do as I suggested - Its Easy Mate!!

I hereby declare mate 'YOU ARE THE GURU" Im looking forward to going UP country VIC. Hmm can you beat gnomesville???????

Re: Cheap but safe backpackers accommodation wanted

Heather, Melbourne is easy to drive, especially if you have a good map and navigator, Make certain you study the Melbourne road map the night before and highlight your your map with a bright highlighter. then no confusion from the navigator.

World war three nearly started in our car heading to St Kilda, i don't understand the islands separating traffic going the same way, then there is the hook turns arghhhhhhhh

Oh and i won't trust the phone navigator, hubby drove to fast for the phone to keep up and we past the streets just as we were told to turn.

Alas david -Sirgaw is coming to help and has kindly offered to show us around. How awesome!!

>then there is the hook turns arghhhhhhhh

They were designed by Gnomes - LOL Maybe you should have a look at one of my Melb travel warnings - its all about our hook turns. Click onto the link as shown, as there is a great animated version of the turn.

Travel Tips for Melbourne

For everything about Melbourne...

For everything about Melbourne check this site out - - - > http://melbourne.citysearch.com.au/

It has great links to everything going on in Melbourne. Melbourne seems to be THE place to be if you are hip and happening. My favourite place is a bar called the 'Gin Palace'. It is in the heart of Melbourne, is in a little alleyway and VERY hard to find - guess that's why only the trendy 'regulars' are there sipping the expensive gin and smoking their imported cigarettes. It's good to go there and pretend you are part of the crowd...

City Circle Tram

by eviltooth

Take a free tour around the city on the City Circle Tram. Just wait at any of the specially marked tram stops on Flinders, Spencer, La Trobe or Spring Street. Daily every 20 minutes (sometimes it can be longer than that especially on weekends, so be patient!).

Pic: The City Circle Tram with Flinders Street Station in the background at Flinders Street. Flinders Street Station is the main terminal for Melbourne's vast network of suburban rail services, daily transporting the heavy influx of commuters to and from the city. Opened in 1854, it is the oldest railway station in Australia. Originally the headquarters of the pioneering Hobson's Bay Railway Company, the station was taken over by the Victorian Government in 1878, and the present building were completed in 1910, since which time they have been one of Melbourne's best known landmark.

Going to the Footy

by michelletrex

It is very important that all visitors to Melbourne know what Aussie Rules Football is and what team they follow. If you need to research look at www.afl.com.au. A quick tip, don't pick Collingwood as it tends to envoke hostiltiy among the natives. You can however refer to Eddy McGuire in every conversation as most natives will know this bloke.
PS Bloke means man and Shelia means woman.

Sports Hub

Although a major event took place at the time, you are spoilt for choice. AFL, tennis, motorsports etc. Melbourne has many world class facilities and hosts world class events.
Places one can visit include: MCG, Telstra Dome and other

Great Ocean Rd

The Great Ocean Rd is an amazing Rd which runs from Melbourne all the way to Adelaide.
It is one of the most picturesque rds in all the world. And passes through many great coastal towns and past tourist attractions such as the Loch and Gorge.
If you come to Victoria, you must travel along the Rd
