Bird Feeding in the Dandenongs Ranges

by aerochem87

Hi, Can anybody tell me how to get to the bird feeding area in the dandenongs ranges if I'm driving?

Hi - I suppose you mean the one at Grants Picnic Ground. I've been past it several times. Its very popular.

Here is a link that describes how to get there with a (very) rough map. There is a big car parking area there. I have not seen the car park full yet.

Grants is the only place you can legally feed wild birds in Dandenong Ranges. This has been done to protect birds from disease that they could pick up and also diseases we can pick up from them particularly parrot fever. Grants may also be referred to as Sherbrooke Tea Rooms.

Travel Tips for Melbourne

attend a major sporting event...

by PrincessPark

attend a major sporting event at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground). I would recommend football, it's uniquely Australian and it's a great spectator sport, the crowd alone will make it worth while. Sit in the outer, grab a pie from the pie boy and enjoy! is my football team (Carlton) beating Essendon by a point at the MCG in the 1999 Preliminary Final

Eat.. Melbourne is three...

Eat.. Melbourne is three things... Food, culture, sport. You have to make time to try them all. Some of the best museums and gallerys, certainly the best restaurants and you really have to see an AFL or cricket game at the MCG The shopping and the nightlife... seems more alive at night than Sydney

Jurlique Day Spa at Como

by alisonr

My mum and I had a fantastic day spa at the Como Centre in Chapel Street South Yarra. Just for Alex-Perth it was the Jurlique day spa. Extremely professional! Pricey but definatly worth it if you are that way inclined! The services are so much better than in regional areas where I live!! What a treat!

Pack a bit of Everything!

by sarijayne

Make sure you bring a small back pack or simillar for day trips. Melbourne is well know for its unpredictable weather, so it is advisable to bring a bit of everything.
Firstly check out climate conditions for the time you are travelling. Bring mostly things suited best to that time of year.
A light jacket that can be stored easy when not in use will come in handy even in thwe peak of summer. The strogestst UV rated sunscreen avalible. Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer per capita in the world. Remember it dosent have to be hot & sunny to get burnt! A camera with panorama capabilites would be well used whilst touring around Melbourne.

Frankston

by supercarys

If you're in Melbourne and want to get away from the city for a bit, go to Frankston. It's a lovely suburb with a lot of beach and is close enough to make a day trip to at about 40 minutes south of the city (just follow the coast). This is a town of many parks and gardens to relax or picnic in and is a great place to spend an easy going day.

See my Frankston pages for specific information and tips.
