Try the Victoria Hotel in Little Collins street, right in heart of CBD, so very handy to tennis, MGC, shops and markets. Very well priced for central CBD and large rooms, recently refurbished.

Hope you have reserved your tickets for the Australian Open Tennis. Melbourne is a large city , generally safe , but does have some not so nice areas to keep away from. These areas are no problem during day time, problems usually occur after 10pm , are usually in entertainment areas catering for young people, drinking etc, just keep away from the nightclub district. Melbourne has an excellent transport system, trams are excellent. We usually stay in the city centre, South Melbourne, etc.

Hi,
Try http://www.cityedge.com/ for self-contained apartments. I stayed at the apartments in Gipps Street, seemed to be pretty central.
Good Luck!

Try tripadvisor. Personally, I wouldn't use anything else.
Have a nice time while you're here.

Travel Tips for Melbourne

The Crown Complex

by Ankhesenamun

Go to the Crown Complex. Well, we actually didn´t see much of Melbourne, but we were there and it was fun! If you want to shop, go to the Victoria Market. You can find everything there (clothes, souvenirs, cosmetics...), and it is really cheap! And you should go to the Victorian Arts Centre. As we met our friends. It was on the first day in Melbourne.

Melbourne is an beautifull...

by mocca

Melbourne is an beautifull city with beautifull architecture, beautifull botanical gardens and a giant zoo. There are many restaurants, museums, movie theaters, they have a comedy week once a year with comedians from all over the world.
Go to Melbourne and you won't be bored a day.

I saw a Queen

by l_joo

I saw a Queen at Chapel street, she is standing over there and I snapped her photo, she is without doubt, a queen, very sure. Probably a lost Queen of a big imperial somewhere we don't know, the way she dress revealed her status, though I am not an Imperialist, I could tell she was a somebody, big people.

Just try to pick the weather...

by CandS

If you're visitng Melbourne take some of everything...it can be VERY hot one day and pouring rain the next. When I was there it was 44°C on the Saturday then the next day it was cool and rained...go figure! Take a tripod to take some night photos along the river! You can buy anything and everything that you could want while you're in Melbourne...

Hanging Rock

by aussirose

Hanging Rock. Have you seen the move? ....No me neither. ...But since our wonderful vt meeting here May 2006, guess I'd better see it. Well we certainly saw some lovely country. And what better way, than with a bunch of fellow tourists!! Had a fabulous time!! I totally recommend to visit Hanging Rock on your visit to Melbourne!!
