Get amongst it

Located in the middle of Melbourne City this heritage listed building is quite unique.
It is fully restored and has a nice quiet cocktail bar to relax at the end of a busy day.

Unique Quality: Built in 1913 as the Commercial Travellers Club, this heritage-listed building has been meticulously restored to its original splendour. The Commercial Travellers Club held a significant place in Australia's history being home for travelling politicians and dignitaries.

In the heart of the business district, this superbly appointed hotel fronts onto Flinders Street, just across the road from the historic Flinders Street Railway Station. Directly across the Yarra River are the shopping and entertainment precincts of Southbank the Crown Casino and the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The hotel is conveniently located close to the city's major sporting venues, Telstra Dome, Melbourne Cricket Ground and Rod Laver Arena.

More about Rendezvous Hotel Melbourne

Choose Room Carefully..!

by TripAdvisor Member CarlM

I stayed at the hotel in November. (will post hotel photos later)
First room was a Delux Room ??? on 6th floor, round the side.
Not what I expected, smelly and overlooking a wall?
Straight down to reception to move room.
Asked to get moved, payed $25 extra for a room on 3rd floor, 324, these rooms have been updated, flat screen TV, new carpets new bed, shower room! ect. Soooo much better, and I actually overlooked the river (and railway station). Very central on Flinders street, look and eat on south bank if you wish, but visit china town down by parliment house, lot of places to eat, some more expensive than others. South side of the river resteraunt, high class and typically $60 for a good lunch! China town and Hard Rock Cafe, very good and cheaper. Restaraunt in the hotel is very good and well priced. I tried most things on the menu, and it all was very good. Bar was very nice. Gloria Jeans coffee shop up the road serves up a good morning coffee, paper and breakfast. If I stay again, I will get same room or better!

Not satisfactory

by TripAdvisor Member trippao

This is supposed to be a central 4-star hotel. While the location is good (though it's very close to a railway station on a trafficked road with trams), the 4-stars are only referring to the monumental hall. The deluxe room is probably not even 3-star (dirty moquette, broken curtains, small rooms). The receptionists are giving useless pre-arranged answer to customers (example: we asked for parking and we were told that the cost was 39 $ per day in outside parking, thus spending 25 $ for valet parking. Truly, parking was available very close to the hotel for 8 $ per day, we were there in the weekend). We had to upgrade the room (25 $ extra) to get a decent accomodation (but the first night was very noisy and we had to ask for a quieter room).

Two nights was enough

by TripAdvisor Member Donna56

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. I had phoned the hotel directly to book as I had read the Trip Advisor reviews mentioning the fact that some rooms had been refurbished and some had not. It was suggested that we book a Club room and at the time I was advised that a Breakfast Buffet was included. The room itself was quite comfortable, however be warned that these rooms DO NOT have windows. I would also have to question the fact that this is supposed to be a four star hotel. The location is excellent, however furniture and carpets were stained and both saucers in the room had huge chips...I placed them on one side and still got them the next day. When we went down to have breakfast on level one (as the hotel book in our room indicated and also the brochure that was still being offered in the lobby) there was not a soul around. The staff at the front desk advised that this was now not included and that it had changed two weeks earlier. I mentioned that when I booked at least a month earlier I was advised at that time that it was included, the lady at the desk said that "this time she would take my word for it" and eventually agreed to cover the cost of our breakfasts. It would make sense to me that should have been an automatic decision on her part due to the booking date. At least put a note in the room to advise people of the change.

Little things leave a lasting impression and for this reason we would not stay at this hotel again.

Beautiful Old Building, Reasonable Enough Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member echoco

My partner and I stayed at the Rendezvous from 6 to 8 April 2007. Every year we travel to Melbourne for the comedy festival so we like to be in a central location to the Town Hall and Flinders Street Station etc.

The location was great and we had a great view with a balcony from a renovated Deluxe Room (#828), we were able to test out the weather without even leaving the hotel! Great view of the Crown Casino and fire show of an evening.

One major downside to the location was the district it was in, being full of backpacker hotels, which meant having to walk past drunken tourists of a Friday & Saturday night.

If you are there for business you might want to get a room that is not on the Flinders St side as you can sometimes hear the trains. It didn't bother us in the slightest though!

I specifically requested a renovated Deluxe room, with a view of the river/crown complex and a balcony when I booked direct with the hotel for $159AUD per night. When we got there before regular check-in time (which was advised at the time of the booking that we would be there in the morning) the front office lady booked us into a room on the 9th floor. We questioned her about it and she said our room wasn't ready yet, so we said we would leave our luggage at the conceirge desk and return later in the afternoon when our room was ready.

The rooms are quite small, but the balcony helped create a nice atmosphere. As we were leaving we spotted an internal room, which seemed bigger than ours- no balcony though.

BEWARE: anyone with allergies to dust! Our room was soooooo dusty. I have asthma and sinus troubles and my partner suffers with dust allergies, we managed well enough and kept the balcony door open as much as possible for fresh air. If checking in to this hotel advise staff prior to arrival of any allergies so that you can get them to "REALLY" clean; the cups and cutlery, comforter, bed head and vacuum curtains.

I checked the room over with a Black Light to reveal urine or other fluids or stains that shouldn't be in a hotel room. Nothing really stuck out at me, the usual places were grubby; like light switches, handles, sides of the toilet, and remotes. Pretty normal for most hotels, even at the 5 Star Westin Melbourne when we stayed there the year before. Its a good idea to carry wipes with you and give the room a quick wipe over. It was also dissapointing to see that the balcony doors were filthy and really needed a wash, and there was a small pile of styrofoam pieces on the balcony. Plenty of pigeon poop too!

Overall, fairly happy with our stay.

Pleasant stay.

My partner and I booked the Rendezvous for an overnight stay through [--]. We were allocated a "commerce" room on the renovated first floor. The room was not large, but was quite adequate for a short stay. The decor was very pleasing, the room featured a flat screen TV and broadband connection, and the bathroom was clean and compact.

The hotel is very centrally located, with the main shopping areas and many of Melbourne's tourist attractions within a few minutes walk. The immediate vicinity of the hotel is a little faded, but it felt safe at all times.

We felt the staff of the hotel went out of their way to provide good service. The public areas are quite grand, and we enjoyed the ambience of the very comfortable bar and the downstairs breakfast room.

Relative to price paid, the Rendezvous is a good quality, central hotel and we would happily stay there again.
