 | Saville Park Suites Melbourne: Fun in the Henhouse - I mean Penthouse!

The Saville Park Suites are a great place to base yourself for your stay in Melbourne. Brilliant in terms of convenience - you are right by the City Circle free tramline to take you round the city, within walking distance of China Town and the main shopping area (Melbourne is famous for its shopping, so this is a big plus), you overlook the scenic Carlton Gardens park, and there is a great bar/restaurant down by the lobby (the Owl and the Pussycat).
The accommodation is great - I got to check out 3 different styles of accommodation, you can choose between one or two bedroom self-contained appartments or be spoiled in a spacious penthouse suite - and there is an indoor pool and sauna. Even the smaller appartments come with their own balconies, and the kitchens are more than adequate. You also get a small but well-equipped laundry. Overall, very comfortable, pleasant and convenient.
In terms of special qualities at the Saville Park Suites, for me it was the amazing company I stayed here with. VT member Anne12 organised the 2006 Big Meet and kindly invited me to stay with her and some of the others - after some jiggery-pokery the penthouse suite ended up being home to Anne, Andrea, Ann, Deb, Bob and myself and was venue to one or two lively parties with other VTers! A big thank you to Anne, who did a wonderful job on the organisational side, and is such a fun lady to room with! Tina, Steve and I had a great stay in our two bedroom apartment while attending the Melbourne 2006 VT meeting.
The living areas where a good size, however, the en-suite off the main bedroom was very 'tight' and two people would have had a hard time manoeuvring around in there. The main bathroom has plenty of room and also has a 'laundry' concealed behind sliding doors.
I would definitely stay here again.
Tip: On arrival, make sure you are checked in on the right floor. Unknown to us at the time of booking, the Saville Park Suites have Smoking and Non-smoking floors and the first night we all suffered from passive smoking as we had been checked in on the Smoking floor and woke up congested and miserable. The staff had us sorted out the next morning and the air quality difference on the Non-smoking floor was remarkable!
The Saville Park Suites has 144 one and two bedroom apartments the hotel offers two penthouse apartments, restaurant, indoor heated pool and sauna. Large private balconies offer fantastic views of the Melbourne city skyline and the beautiful Carlton Gardens.
The apartments have a fully equipped kitchen with full size cooktop, oven, refrigerator and dishwasher. Laundry with washing machine, dryer (great for de-creasing suit-case squashed clothes), iron and ironing board (if the dryer has a hard time convincing the creases to relax!)
