Hi there

It depends what you are into I reckon.

Live music is generally my thing and here are some recomendations:
St Kilda area: THe Esplanade Hotel (the Espy), The Vineyard, Elephant and Wheelbarrow, Price of Wales. I like the the first 2, cos my friends have played there best but thats just me.
City Area: Night Cat, Randy Dragon (sat nights), Young & Jacksons, Art House (nth melb).

If you are into Bars:
The Supper Club, The Deanery, Riverland, Trust, Transport, E55, Bluestone, Cookie, the Apartment (I could go on...)Also many bars and places to eat along the laneways in the city, too many to name :).
City Night Clubs: CQ, Silk Road, Spice Market (these are up-market places).

Anyway, let me know what floats your boat and the area u r likely to be staying and I can make some recommendations

As well as many excellent bars suggested in the city (and there are many more), personal favourite hang-outs are in the Smith St/Gertrude St/Brunswick St of Fitzroy (many many places to chose from). It's a bit more artsy than the CBD. Good for daytime hangout as well (answer to your other question).

I live in St Kilda - another great night time area but can become something OTT on a Friday and Saturday night, but great live music spots (Espy and Prince of Wales Bandroom). And away from Fri/Sat, Fitzroy St in St K a more enjoyable place.

Travel Tips for Melbourne

Trams are great!

by Jeanetteak

I would reccomned a tour I went on called Tramtastic Tours. They take you on the tram around Melbournes fabulous inner city suburbs, which I didn't even know existed despite having been here before. The other thing is that they also show you how easy the tram system is once you know how and even made a personal itinerary for me so I could get to some shops I wanted to visit using the trams. It took about 4 hours and was fun, great value for money, and if you want to see the best side of Melbourne, do it! I also went on a hidden secrets tour around the bottom of the city which I would reccomend- there is so much more to Melbourne than the Victoria Markets! The cheeky Italian guy who runs Pellegrinis, a wonderful cafe in the city!

Melbourne Tip

by boroughboy74

Among my favourite places is the Dandenong Ranges. There are some spectacular national parks to visit, with rivers, mountains and towering native forests. You may also see native wildlife in their natural habitat.

The Mornington Peninsula is also great. The coast some dramatic surf beache. Be sure to take a trip by chairlift up Arthur's Seat for spectacular views of Port Phillip bay and across to the city

Melbourne Museum

by CandS

We visited the Melbourne Museum...it was very interesting...

The Melbourne Museum is located in the Carlton Gardens just out of the CBD area. It is open between 10 am and 5 pm daily (except Christmas Day and Good Friday).

It costs $15 per adult, $8 for a child or $35 for a family.

Melbourne is a very diverse...

by eddie03

Melbourne is a very diverse city when it comes to the population, And because of this the cuisine has also been effected. Melbourne is world reknowned for its diversity in food.
Lygon St in Carlton has a broad range of Italian cuisine.
Chinatown is the home of asian cuisine
Or if you prefer more modern and trendy joints, visit Chapel St for new age cafes.

The people of Melbourne are extremely friendly, so if youre stuck there is help all around you.
