5 stars at the Yarra River
The name of the hotel is now LANGHAM. It`s right across the Flinders Street Station on the other side of the Yarra. From there you have a fantastic view to the CBD.
It´s a very elegant and luxurious hotel with a pool on its top. The quests are international.
Stayed there for four nights and am enthusiastic about this wonderful hotel, which I can highly recommend.

The Sheraton is a comfortable and classy hotel
Now this is a luxury hotel. From the moment you enter the premises, and experience the elegance of the grand staircase and its crystal chandelier, the classy and sophisticated surroundings and its attendant staff will captivate you. For Starwood Preferred Guests there are even up-scale procedures to get checked in and oriented to the hotel.
Connected to a shopping mall and dining entertainment area, the Sheraton Towers provides a very convenient and elegant location from which to stage ones activities when staying in Melbourne. I was particularly impressed by the riverside location and the colorful and tasteful lighting used at night to distinctively illuminate the buildings on both sides of the Yarra River. It was truly a beautiful and peaceful setting. And right behind the hotel is one of the footbridges crossing the Yarra River for those wishing to walk into the central business district.
The piano bar provides a very comfortable seating area for casual socialization or for informal, small business meetings. Adjacent to it is a very nice dining room.
My room was exceptionally well appointed. The bed was big and comfortable (although I wish hotels still used sheets and blankets instead of the single multi-layered quilt) and very easy to sleep on. The bathroom featured a garden shower that was an exquisite treat at the end of a long day or the beginning of a new one.
When I return to Melbourne on my next trip, I will look forward to staying in this remarkably comfortable and appealing hotel.
Unique Quality: A great location, good restaurants and a wonderful promenade along the river's edge.

Although not as breathtaking as other 5 star hotels that I have stayed at, it is very difficult to find fault with Langham.
Myself and my husband spent a very nice 3 night stay at the hotel and had no complaints at all. Upon check in, we were offered to upgrade to a club level room which we decided to go ahead with and thoroughly enjoyed the perks that it gave us (we did pay for the upgrade).
Our room was lovely. It is in a more traditional style than my usual choice of hotels which tend to be modern and contemporary but I enjoyed the comfort and warmth of the Langham room. It was spacious and clean, with the usual amenities found at a luxury hotel such as bathrobe, free local newspaper, bottled water etc. The bathroom was a decent size with room for a seperate shower which I always prefer. The bed was extremely comfortable and I had an excellent night's sleep every night in it. The room also had large windows which showed amazing views of the city and Yarra river. The only downside to the room which has been previously mentioned was the plumbing was a bit noisy- you could hear when a neighbouring room had their tap turned on or were using the shower etc. But to me, that was a very minor inconvienance and I hardly noticed it after a while.
The club room was lovely- very well laid out and relaxing. It had an excellent continental breakfast choice which was accompanied by a couple of varying hot choices every day. The afternoon tea I found was particularly delightful. The room also had 2 computers for complimentary internet access which was very handy.
I spent half a day at the hotel's Chuan Spa and had a fantastic time. The woman who did all of my treatments (Courteney) was brilliant. She was calming and quiet when she needed to be but when I was having a manicure and pedicure for example, she was very friendly and chatted normally to me. She didn't have a sniffy attitude which I liked. The massage and facial that she also did were brilliant and I liked that they were fairly thorough with the questionnaire before the treatments started, so it was all done in a way to best suit my needs. The resting area before and after the treatments was beautiful- very exotic, peaceful and relaxing. I ordered lunch when I first arrived at the spa and halfway through my treatments, I had a break. I came out to find that my food had arrived and was all set up for me by the pool. Had the most divine scallops and calamari I've ever had and the view of the city was stunning.
The location of the hotel on Southbank was excellent. There were dozens of restaurants around the hotel as well as Flinders St Station, the city centre and Crown Casino all being within a 10 minute walk.
Whilst this hotel will never dazzle in the same way as some of its young upstart counterparts, it is still a very comfortable base in an excellent location in which to explore Melbourne. In fact, it's a very nice place to be indeed.
Waste of time and money

We booked a few nights in the Club Classic expecting the butler service, complementary pressings upon request, etc. as described in the hotel web site. We never saw a butler, nor complementary anything aside from two small bottles of water presented by a member of staff when they came to do the early evening turndown service (we discovered if you weren’t there at that time, water wasn’t left in the room). Check-in was brief and basic, we weren’t offered assistance with location, maps or any additional advice of the services the hotel offers or even the hours of the restaurant/bar in the hotel. Good points were the great location and the bed was excellent and ensured a good night’s sleep. However, the room felt cramped, the toiletries were “petite” at best, TV channels were the minimum and we couldn’t escape the cheapness of it (plastic bath for example). There was also no climate control, the air-condition was either on or off. This is an expensive hotel offering guests a bare bones service and nowhere near a 5 star standard. We didn’t even have newspapers delivered to our door each day, that’s a chargeable service. Free papers in your room each day is something anyone would expect in a 5 star. The lobby, etc was beautiful so we left feeling the money had been spent on how it looked to business conference crowds and not on the guests. We wanted to like this hotel but found too many negatives. I’d call it a mediocre business-orientated hotel that’s way behind the times and would urge anyone to stay away.
Love the Langham

The Langham is a brilliant hotel. We have stayed there four times for city weekends and I cannot fault it. The service is superb, the rooms are spotless and any food we have eaten, either room service or restaurant has been terrific. On this particular weekend it was our wedding anniversary, although that was not why we were there and I didn't mention it when booking. The hotel must have checked their records from when it was the Sheraton (previous name) and found out. We stayed at the Sheraton seven years ago for a previous anniversary. When we returned to our room from a walk we found a divine chocolate tart, beautifully presented on a large plate, with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate around the edge - this was complimentary from the management! I couldn't speak highly enough of this hotel. The beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept in!!
indifferent service

I stayed for a weekend break in mid january 2007. I would say that the room was perfectly fine and the bathroom was one of the nicest I had stayed in. The hotel is right in the river and near to the lovely Victoria art gallery. Also, very good gym with excellent changing room and sauna. However, the pool is tiny and the large sun terrace had about 8 sun loungers on it for a hotel of over 300 rooms ! Ofcourse you could not get a free sun lounger and when I complained the receptionist said that no-one else had complained before so it is not even a problem. Clearly you are not allowed to sit in the sun when at The Langham in Melbourne. Also went to the restaurant with wife to have a pot of tea and some scones but was told we weren`t allowed to order just the scones and had to order the full sandwich and cakes option because something terrible would happen if you only wanted scones, and they were unable to deal with such a tricky request. I note also that the sandwiches were open to the air and flies were buzzing around. After complaining to a man at reception he said that there was nothing he could do and he really couldn`t care less. I then complained to a Lady at reception and we were offered a bottle of wine as compensation for not being allowed to order a scone and some tea. What a Joke. Nobody in this hotel can deal with small issues because they are gormless. Unbeleivable, especially when we are the paying customers. I would not like to rely on the staff if anything major needed sorting out.
Pretty nice hotel

I spent four nights on my honeymoon in this hotel and not by choice, the grand hyatt was booked. I was impressed by the size and views of the river view room. Room service was very good and the lounge is a nice place for a cocktail. The pool and jacuzzi overlook the city which was nice but the water had a strange smell to it? I loved the location as it was on the other side of the river which i think is the nicer side but still with in walking distance to everything. i would recommend this hotel.
Waste of money and nothing special

Stayed at the Langham for 4 days in a 'Club Classic King' which was booked via the langham hotels website. From the way the room is pictured and described we thought we were getting something above average, (Butler service, canapes, all day tea and coffee etc).. didn't see any of that… the so called Langham Club Lounge just felt pretentious. There appears to be no difference between staying in a 'Classic King' room a few floors lower to staying in the overpriced 'Club Classic King'. It was just hugely disappointing because none of the touches were there, no complimentary newspapers, they were very miserly with the toiletries but the worst thing was the staff were so aloof bordering on rude and that’s the main reason I wouldn't bother staying there again, not even in a cheaper room. The doorman seemed to pick and choose who seems worthy of him getting the door for (obviously not us), the reception staff seemed to pick and choose who they will decide to be friendly and informative towards.. (again not us) and even housekeeping kept you waiting about a hour for some shower gel, actually the only person who didn’t seem to have attitude was the concierge on our departure. The only two saving graces were the bed… it was truly amazing and the location but never again.
