Hi all,
Can someone tell how far Upwey is from the bushfires?
I can not figure out how far it is in kilometers etc., and my wife is taying at her brother in Upwey.
You can understand that I'm worried by seeing the news on tv.
Thanks
Peter
You could try emailing VT member "craic" as she lives in Upwey.
I think it's a safe distance from the fires.
Upwey is away from the danger areas, have a look at this map it will show where the fires are. Upwey is located between Belgrave Heights and Ferny Creek to the South East.
Oops here is the link

Victoria Bitter is a product, is a beer, is probably created by local Victorians to make money or perhaps something else I don't know. I only know that my country would not want to make money, they said they are Islamic, alcoholic drinks are sinful, they cannot accept sinful stuffs, so there were none alcoholic products created by Malaysian. But then the Islamic government accept imports of 'sinful' products, funny that import is allowed but create a Malaysian brand is sinful, a funny theory to self destroy economy. But then that was God's decision, God is the one who decide what you should drink, so please do not comment to much on 'sinful' products. Anyway my favourite beer in Melbourne is Carlton Cold.
As many of you have seen on my other pages, I like to give a little credit to the hometown brews available.
In Melbourne, you will enjoy many different drinks, but one I tried today was Melbourne Bitter. This drink seems mysteriously close to Victoria Bitter, and that is because they are from the same brewery.
One of the most important things to do when you are in Melbourne is to enjoy a Victoria Born sport, Australian Rules Football. This used to be the VFL, or Victorian Football League, but it has recently incorporated the whole country and therefore needed to change its name.
Footy is a great game to watch, as the action is pretty continous, and the concept is simple! Kick the ball through the posts, while your opponents try to knock your head off! Just some warm clothes and a great attitude!
Phillip Island is located in the Western Port Bay, approximately 140 kilometres south-east of Melbourne. It is famous for the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, the Penguin Parade and Seal Rocks. People also flock here for the surf and the Pyramid Rock Festival (held on New Year's Eve)
The Penguin Parade is one of the few places in the world where you can see little penguins come ashore to their nests every evening after being at sea all day. It is a most amazing thing to watch and millions of tourists visit every year. The Nature Park where they arrive is also home to a koala conservation centre.
Seal Rocks are just off the coast of the Nobbies at Phillip Island, and are home to the largest colony of fur seals in Australia (as well as huge Great White Sharks or the occasional whale!). You can view them through telescopes at the Nobbies (a great coastal area of Phillip Island), or if the weather is calm you may even be able to take a boat out closer to the rocks.
Aside from the wildlife, Phillip Island is just a pretty place to drive around with plenty of history, surf shops, cafes and beaches. You could easliy spend 3 or 4 days there but just be aware that traffic can be bad as there is only one bridge and one road heading on and off the island.
