Mornington Motel: affordable accommodation
Mornington and the Mornington Peninsula are well-known as Melbourne's summer playground. Right on the main street of Mornington and within easy walking distance to the main shopping and restaurant area is the Mornington Motel operated by friendly proprietors and staff.
We stayed in an air-conditioned Queen Suite which had a queen sized bed (electric blankets for the cooler months) and a single bed that doubles as a couch. The suite has a small kitchen complete with microwave, kettle, toaster, limited crockery and cutlery and a fridge. Supplied is sachets of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sweet and savoury biscuits and sachets of cheese. Suite has colour TV and DVD player and clock radio. Bathroom is small but adequate and has a separate toilet. Unit is serviced daily. Ample off street parking.
Larger suites also available.
Small on site swimming pool and covered guest BBQ area (gas BBQ and implements provided) complete guest facilities.

Morning Star Estate: everything you need
What do you do with an old delinquent boys home that is surrounded by a farm that gave the boys a rural lifestyle complete with pristine views across Port Phillip Bay and almost right next door to some of the most expensive bay side suburbs of Melbourne? Turn the whole complex into an award winning wine estate - including cellar door sales - complete with magnificent 4 star accommodation, fine restaurant and up-market function centre for weddings etc., all surrounded by rose garden with 300 varieties, leafy walk ways leading to dramatic fountains and call the 38 acre property Morning Star Estate.
Morning Star Estate is all of the above and more and truly magnificent.
A walk past the various buildings shows the grandeur of the estate, which was originally built as a rural or holiday retreat, incorporating a variety of picturesque styles including Tudor and Gothic revival.
The meals in the function centre are stunning (author attended a wedding) and served by attentive staff - and the meals are served with the estates own wines - red and white wines or various types.

Cape Schanck Light Station: Historic lighthouse
We were lost for words when we arrived. It's simply beautiful.
It can get quiet at night as we were the only ones there. The gates will be lock and only ousiders allow into the premises. The heater were also not functioning very well. The kettle which we tried to use had rusted. We ended up driving out for fresh rations and dinner.
Sleeping in a more than a century old light station is really an experience!
You could do a tour up the lighthouse and it offers a spendid view!
