Travel Tips for Port Fairy

Watching the surfers

by Kate-Me

One of the things I enjoyed best about our brief stop in Port Fairy was watching the surfers at the rocky beach ride the diagonal waves, and quite successfully too, compared to the last lot of surfers we'd watched the day before at Warrnambool.

Tower Hill II

by iandsmith

Shown here is one of the lakes around the central hill of the caldera. There may or may not be water in them depending on whether drought conditions prevail or not.
They are enclosed by the outer cone of the volcano and, although they are all called Tower Hill Lake, there are more than one.

Port Fairy - Magic By The Moyne River

by Mikebb

Port Fairy is a seaside town on the Great Ocean Road in the south West of Victoria. We found it to be a fabulous place to stay overnight but to see it properly you really need several days. It would be ideal for a holiday during the holiday season. The town is a walk through history, charming old homes. modest homes and stately buildings are everywhere. The National Trust has classified more than 50. The town was one of Victoria's earliest ports and during the 19th century was second to Sydney as Australia's largest port. The port is situated on the Moyne River where docks line the banks for use by the large fishing fleet and holiday charter boats. There are several hotels and many restaurants providing good meals.

Great town

by EllenH

Driving up The Great Ocean Road from Melbourne to Adelaide, on our way to the Barossa valley is a long but beautiful drive. A nice place to stop in between is Port Fairy, a cute, artsy, very friendly town with a great beach.
