Paddlesteamer Motel: Motel

The owner was an owner operator (as opposed to a lessee) and was rather proud of his establishment - and it showed.
Service was good, and even though his establishment was rather large, he still took time for a chat with guests.
Nice atmosphere.

Unique Quality: In contrast to the budget rooms, the manager's check in desk was quite modern, there was a bar and a modern restaurant on site (even though it was a quiet night and it didn't seem as though they were operating that night) and the hotel even had its own 14 seater courtesy bus out front under the trendy shade sail!
The overall effect was a bit like Queensland, with all the palm trees around....but no beach for many hundreds of kilometres!

Paddlesteamer Motel: Motel (budget)

As we were only in town over night on business, we were simply looking for the cheapest accommodation we could find, comfortable, value for money, and we found that.
The rooms ranged from $55 - $65 per double room (more expensive rooms above pool available). That was about $15 under the Budget Motel in the town centre (and even closer to highway) which is usually the cheapest chain in any town.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, a tv that worked fine (unlike the tiny ones in some cheap hotels where you spend most of the night trying to get reception out of the rabbits ears aerial), bathroom simple but had everything required. Coffee and tea provided, along with kettle, fridge with milk, cups and plates. We were quite content.

Unique Quality: This is the first budget motel I've seen for a while which has a pool as well (and a decently long one at that). The 3 or 4 $110 rooms above the swimming pool (all other units are ground floor) have their own balcony and views down right over the pool, which looks great from above.
