Sky diving
by albaaust
If you are interested in skydiving you can do it in Broome. Although I did not participate (I am a wimp!!) we saw plenty of people doing it. It is right next to Gantheame Point on the race track. You would have a fantastic view of Cable Beach and the area around Gantheame Point.
Streeters Jetty
by Purpleshade
Streeters Jetty off Dampier Terrace is a small old wooden jetty built out through the mangroves for the old pearling ships to come close into town.
From the road, doesn't look worth walking down, but if you kneel down and look over the edge, you can see tiny red sand crabs hiding in their burrows in the mud with their one giant claw sticking out. . There are also yellow sand crabs, and some small boys pointed out mud-hoppers, strange creatures that look like fish with legs that skip over the mud and water.
When I enlarged the photo I saw that there are also black crabs. The place is teeming with little crabs.
Staircase to the moon
by coolbananas
Every month, at full moon and the two days after full moon there's a very special thing happening: the 'staircase to the moon'.
At full moon the moon will rise when the sun sets. During this time of the day it's low tide, so the water level in the ocean near the shore is minimal. Because of the low tide there's a huge rippling mud flat. When the moon rises the moonlight will be reflected by the mud flat, which creates the optical effect of a staircase to the moon, hence the name of the phenomenon.
It's quite difficult to take a good picture of this effect (I've tried, but the pictures didn't come out very well), but you can always buy a postcard...(widely available in Broome)
Dinosaur Footprints at Gantheaume Point
by Myndo
Gauntheraume Point is a red sand-stone cliff at the sea.
Some million years ago (when the area was flat, muddy and not at the sea) a dinosaur walked through and left his footprints....
Unfortunately they can only be seen if the tide is very low. If it is not, there are some replica located higher there.
The information Centre should be able to give the information about the tides - or you can have a look at the local magazines.
But even if your low-tide is not low enough I would go there, just to see the red cliffs and their stark contrast to the tourquoise sea.
(The picture is not manipulated, it does look like that).
Watch a movie at the "Sun Pictures"
by Myndo
The Sun Pictures is the oldest still standing and operating open air cinema in the world.
I have to admit it doesn´t look like much from the outside, but that´s not the important thing.
It is an Experience to watch a film in this surrounding. Even when the sun is down it will be some time before the sky is really black. While the stars come out and you watch the movie, there is a soft wind blowing through the palms and sometimes a gecko or a bat comes by...
Marvelous.
