What areas?

by Emma-Jo

I was just wondering if the beach at 'the cut' allows dogs to go on/swim in the water or is it against the law?

I don't know about Bunbury, but generally in Australia dogs aren't encouraged on beaches as they attract sharks and crocs. Where it's actually illegal I can't say.

Well I can add on that most seaside towns have seperate beach area's for dogs to swim, so look out for the signs as they always so yes or no to dogs. The only "CUT" I know down that way is fairly remote beach and you wont have any problems with your dog

Hi there,
Well as a resident of bunbury and a visitor to the cut its like this. The cut is the section between the inlet and the ocean, it is highly visited by fisherman, young and old ( with a small concrete platform- come jetty and lots of rocks). There is a beach off to the left that yes people do take their dogs for walks along. If your dog is well trained in obedience, and you time it right then hassle free walks are not a prob. The cut is also popular with the dolphins which the bunbury dolphin centre is well known worldwide in research and development in harmony. So if your dog is a swimmer ie likes to paddle out far then obedience is a must, as the dolphins come in regularly. Lots of locals take their dogs there, i can't remember signs as such to say no, but as with most beaches in bunbury leashes are required. I guess it depends on the amount of people wanting to use the beach etc. If you pick a quiet time then I highly doubt it the rangers would be about in that section, and your dog could roam free. Again look for the signs and know your dog, if he/she still won't come back on command (like ours) then play it safe use a leash.

Travel Tips for Bunbury

Tourist Radio

by robertgaz

At a “Business After Hours” function for the Bunbury Chamber of Commerce and Industries, I met Barry Green who is the Managing Director for Western Tourist Radio.

Western Tourist Radio operates radio stations in East Perth , Bunbury, Busselton, Dunsborough, Cowaramup (near Margaret River) and Karridale (near Augusta) . These stations provide listeners with some really great tourist info on this region.

For any globetrotters planning to travel in this part of the world, I can highly recommend this website –

www.touristradio.com.au/

In it you will find Travellers Links, a WA Holiday Planner, Special Interest Accommodation, Events in the South West and internet cafes or Telecenters. There are also links for Products/Services, Things to do, Places to eat and Places to stay in major towns around this region.

Surf to Surf Fun Run

by robertgaz

On the 22nd October 2006 over 500 people ran or walked in the 2006 South Western Times Surf to Surf Fun Run in Bunbury. This is an important annual fundraising event for the City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club .

Participants have a choice of either a 10km or 5km run or a 5km walk. I was hoping for a 10km walk but as this wasn't on offer I chose the 5km walk because running holds no appeal for me at all.

The 10km runners go on their way first followed at two minute intervals by the 5km runners and then finally the 5km walkers.

After a slow start due to my loyalty to other team members in staying together they gave me leave to go faster when they realised I preferrred a more determined pace.

So I squickly et off to make up some lost ground and managed to finish 20th with a time of 39min 25sec. The cost is $15.00 for each participant.

Greek Orthodox Parish of St Nicholas

by robertgaz

I was recently contacted by the TheWanderingCamel requesting a photo of the Greek Orthodox Parish of St Nicholas at 15 Forrest Street, Bunbury.

It is for the St Nicholas project which is compiling a gazeteer of photos of all the churches and buildings dedicated to the saint around the world.

Crabbing

Just near the markets is a jetty with nice restaurants. The jetty is also a local hangout for catching crabs. We set the nets up one afternoon a caught a stack of blue crabs!!

Check out the travelogues below for all the fun :o)

Bunbury - Nice stopover heading south of Perth

by aussirose

I spent a few days in Bunbury with my daughter Kelli & family as my son-in-law has been working down there recently.

We had a lovely time checking out the local beach, markets and crabbing.

If you are heading south from Perth then Bunbury is a good stop off for a night or two to enjoy the quaint shops, lovely beach and lake area.

Bunbury is about 2 and a half hours south of Perth and if you are not travelling by car, then there is a good bus or train service right from the centre of Perth.

The beach in Bunbury is gorgeous! Pure white sand with a walking path along the beach front to a nice cafe right on the beach.

We stayed in flats only about 100 metres to the beach so it was an easy walk for us.

On the other side of town is the lake with nice safe swimming for the kids. My grandson just loved it! :o)

We parked the car close by, took baby Gaby for a swim and then walked around to the markets.
