by newyork40

Need to make a choice between these 2 places. There will be 7 kids 5-18 so want the best out of the 2.

This is for January school holidays.

Oh no Trish! Got any Adults to leave the kids with?....while you and Peter visit the wineries?

Sorry, back to the question. :o)

Hi Ann,

Yep Peter and I are lucky that Hannah is 15 and Krystal is 18 so we can choof off to the wineries when we feel like it!!. The other kids are 5,6,7,9 & 11. I needed a quick answer and as I didn't get any I booked the Mandalay as it is right on the waterfront. Also it seems very geared for kids which is what we need so us adults can chill!!!.

You could always join us as they have a camping area. We are going 16-23 January.

We got the last 2 Chalets which were only due to a cancellation. Not sure how the camping area works but am sure it would get booked out well ahead too. Would be worth giving them a tingle if you are thinking about it.

We are going with my brother who is a single dad with 3 girls 5, 9 & 11 and his partner and her 2 boys 6 & 7.

The website is good and has a freecall number.

Travel Tips for Busselton

Busselton Jetty

by CandS

Make sure you walk to the end of the Busselton Jetty if you visit... It is a fairly long walk (up to 1 hour return) but it is worth doing. Or you could take the train one way, or even both ways if you don't want to walk.

Boranup Forest

by keeweechic

If you follow the Caves Road south to Margaret River you will find some of the prettiest Karri (world's tallest species of trees ) forest in the Western Australia. In the heart of the forest is the Great Boranup Maze. It has been described as a 'leg-stretcher and a mind-bender for travellers weary of the open road'.

Cape Naturaliste

by keeweechic

The lighthouse was opened in 1904 and it still is in operation today. There are strong currents and dangerous reefs which life off the point of Cape Naturaliste and at least 12 ships have come to grief there. In the 1840's American whalers frequented the coast in large numbers, 3 of them were wrecked in a gale on July 8 1840. Cape Naturaliste is part of the Margaret River wine region and well known for its natural beauty.

At the information centre there is also a small maritime museum as well as souveniers, drinks and ice creams.

There is an admission to the lighthouse and night tours are available for groups by appointment.

Bunbury Lighthouse

by keeweechic

This was the original lighthouse which sat where Marlston Hill Lookout not sits. The lighthouse was in operation for 33 years until 1903. In 1971 the lighthouse was moved to its present location just down the road and is now a landmark in Bunbury.

Underwater Observatory

by keeweechic

The Underwater Observatory opened in 2003 and is a very unusual place at the end of a 1.8metre jetty. The observatory descends 8metres below the water’s surface and provides viewing of amazing corals and fish life. There are 11 viewing windows and only up to 40 people can be accommodated at any one time. There is an elevator for wheelchairs or physically disabled.

The Busselton Jetty has been described as the greatest artificial reef and there are more than 300 individual marine species, sub-tropical corals, sponges and fish living in this environment. There is an admission but it is also inclusive of the train ride and jetty entrance.

Open : Summer (Dec-Apr) 8am - 5pm
