I'm Taiwanese. I'm going to Geraldton 14th of August .I would like to know how much the YHA's twin room per night.

Re: HI

by unaS

This is a question that you should really ask the YHA directly.

Travel Tips for Geraldton

Kalbarri - 2 hrs up the road

by aussirose

We went for a day trip up to Kalbarri. I had heard so many great things about the place and when we got there, well..... it was nice but I reckon a little overrated. Still, there's a lovely bay there and I hear great fishing and we visited a couple of the famous huge gorges just out of town and on the whole, had a pretty good day..... well except for the flies :o)

HMAS Sydney Memorial

by keeweechic

You certainly cannot miss the HMAS Sydney memorial as it sits high on Mt Scott casting its eye over Geraldton. The memorial commemorates the 645 crew of the HMAS Sydney who died when the ship was hit by a German raider Kormoran on November 11, 1941. The German ship deceived the Sydney crew by identifying themselves as a Dutch ship and then opened fire but they didn’t get off that lightly, 78 of its crew were also killed.

The Waiting Woman

by keeweechic

There is a bronze statue of a woman standing nearer the edge of the memorial holding on to her hat – and it sure can get windy up there. This life sized woman is staring out to the sea as if looking and waiting for someone, perhaps a husband or son.

Official Opening

by keeweechic

The memorial was opened in November 2001. The eternal flame burning at the memorial was taken from Kings Park in Perth and the War Memorial there. There are free tours from Thurs to Sun beginning at 10.30am from the car park. These run for 30 minutes. Donations are welcomed.

Point Moore Lighthouse

by keeweechic

Geraldton of course was originally a port. Point Moore Lighthouse built in 1878, was the second lighthouse to be built in the area – the first was Bluff Point Lighthouse. It is one of the main landmarks in the city. It is not open to the public.
