Boulder:Open letter to all members of vt living in Boulder Western Australia and/or Kalgoorli
Posted: Tue March 28 20:58:09 2006 EST
Anyone able to do a little research into the area and particularly of the time around 1960 on behalf of a member living o/seas who is seeking information about his Grandfather who died in Boulder about that year.
If you aren't able to, maybe you know someone in the area who would be able to do this. I would imagine the births and deaths register would be held locally? Maybe an older member of the community may even have known the person. Anyway please search your own resources as see what you can come up with.
The man's name was Franko Mazuranic.
Thank you for any information that you can give. Please reply here or to my vtmail thank you. Unravelau aka Carole.

Thank you again for that....
What we are hoping for is to find someone who might actually visit the grave, take a photo and maybe verbalise a message from a grandson.
Thank you,
Carole.

Hi Carole,
I only stayed for two nights in Kalgoorlie so I didn't get to know any one at all. I wish I could be of further use to you but unfortunately I don't have any contacts in Kal. I wish I could be of some use to you but this is a bit out of my league. Good luck with your quest though!
Warm Regards,
Robert

Travel Tips for Kalgoorlie
Architecture
by bijo69
After the first gold finds Kalgoorlie quickly became a very rich town. Consequently lots of beautiful buildings were erected in the 19th century, mixing lots of architectural styles like Victorian, Edwardia, Morrish and Art-Noveau.
Especially the hotels/pub along Hannan Street are worth a look. My favourite is the Exchange Hotel with its two -storey verandas.
Boulder Pioneer Cemetery

Walking over the old cemetery and reading the inscriptions on the old, neglected graves brings us close to those early gold rush times. Many young guys died after accidents in gold mines, tombstones were set by their "mates" or "fellow employees" because they had no family around. Many children died at a very young age. Quite moving.
Location: on the road to Kambalda/Norseman.

Native Wildlife Park
by keeweechic
Hammond Park has a wildlife park next to the main area which features a kangaroo and emu sanctuary. There are around 40 kangaroos in the park including the varieties of gray, euro and the red type. Just a small population of both emu’s and kangaroos are kept within the sanctuary.

The Lookout
by keeweechic
There is a lookout just off the highway which provides some amazing views of the open cut as well as the workings that go on there 24 hours a day. The lookout is open every day from 7.00am to 9.00pm. There are apparently free tours of the Super Pit which are run once a month on the Boulder Market Days which is the 3rd Sunday of the month. Other tours run on the half hour from 10.00 – 11.30am.
Location: The Super Pit
