Travel Tips for Margaret River

St Allouarn Winery

by Kate-Me

This one was a nice sight for me to see, not just another winery, but named after one of Western Australia's earliest explorers in the late 1700s, I believe, a Frenchman by the name of St Allouarn.
Nice to see the French are remembered in this corner of Western Australia. located right next door to Voyager and Leeuwin Estate winery.

Yallingup Shearing Shed

by arianne_1504

Here you can watch traditional shearing and detailed displays of shed activities, as well as sheepdogs working with their master. This show is well worth the visit, the shearer makes a great show of including the kids in the all the activities of the shearing shed, and you get to bottle feed the lambs at the end of the show.

The Yallingup Shearing Shed is located a short drive from Yallingup, Busselton and Margaret River situated on four hundred acres of grazing paddocks along Wildwood Road.

There is also a shop filled with beautiful woollen products on the grounds.

Shearing most days 11.00 a.m. Admission to the show is $7 for adults and $4 for kids - a really affordable day out - I went with a group of three grown girls and we thought it was the highlight of our trip to the South West.

Wildwood Road, Yallingup

Open 10.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. (Closed Friday)

Gracetown

by keeweechic

Gracetown is a small community of around a few hundred people only about 15-20 mins from Margaret River (or 10 mins from Cowaramup). Initially the hilly little area was built as a holiday destination with inexpensive housing but over the years the homes have been replaced by large and expensive designs and the value has gone up tremendously. The population multiples during the holiday season. The bay faces north and therefore the beach is sheltered which makes it a favourite for swimming.

Great scones!

by trixee about Berry Farm

The Berry Farm sells a variety of gourmet food, fruit wines and vinegars. I'm sure they're all good, but we went there to have scones for afternoon tea, and it was absolutely lovely! The outdoor garden area was a little bit chilly being all under shade, but the ambience was delightful nevertheless, and we had lots of little birds coming up to our table (trying to get some food, of course!). I did end up buying a jar of the kirsch strawberry jam, which is what was served with our scones - what can I say, it was yummy! Scones with jam and cream - warm and delicious!

Wine Tasting: Xanadu Winery

by trixee

Xanadu Winery was one of the better value wineries in the region. The wine was generally decent quality at a good price, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We happened to arrive just minutes before a large tour bus arrived, dumping twenty or so tourists into the tasting room. Luckily it's a reasonably large tasting room, but it still was rather packed. Since we'd arrived beforehand, our wine steward was still pretty attentive, although he had to cater to the rest of the crowd as well. We listened in a bit on the wine talk, but pretty much took that as our cue to leave.
