Shamrock Hotel: Northams worst stay
Whilst the accommodation was satisfactory the service was not acceptable. We had two rooms reserved for two nights and upon checking in we confirmed that the rooms would be serviced. We were advised "well I won't be doing it but someone will". A strange response? As it turned out we had dinner and drinks at the bar the first night and this was ok. On return to our rooms the following afternoon we found our rooms as we left them in the morning - not serviced. The owner/manager advised he didn't know what happened and suggested we should have left the sign "please make up my room" on the door. We were not advised to do this on check in and it is not something that we practice at hotels we stay at all over the world. Anyway I gave the Manager time to offer us something more than just an apology and when his did not eventuate I enquired if we would receive a partial refund to make up for not servicing the room. He advised I don't think so! Needless to say we did not spend another $ at this establishment. We would have been happy to receive a complimentary bottel of wine or a round of drinks at the bar. So we went down the road to another hotel for dinner, drinks and then breakfast at a nearby cafe. We certainly could not recommend that anyone stay at the Shamrock Hotel in Northam. The owner/mgr whom we have since learned has been at the Shamrock for just a year. He does not have a hospitality background and this was obvious to us as his poor attitude was terribile.
Unique Quality: poor views - outside the windows the hotel eves and verandahs appear to have had some work commenced to improve however the work has stopped and the place looks awful. it is not like the photographs advertised on the web site.

A Little On The Down Side
A little tired on the interior although all the rooms have been renovated and all have individual names. Comfortable enough though very basic in what they provide. Tea and Coffee facilities are available but the cups and saucers are on a trolley at the top of the stairs and there were no teaspoons. The worst part of staying in the hotel was the noise. The bar was directly under our room but it didn’t get noisy until after the bar had closed. There must have been a private little party going on but it wasn’t great for getting a good nights sleep.

Grand Hotel
One of the many historic hotels in Northam. This one was built in 1896. They have refurbished rooms at reasonable rates. They also serve hearty meals.

Brackson House B & B
Brackson House was built in 1903. Today it is a Bed and Breakfast in a countrystyle setting and has won awards for the Best industrial/commercial garden 2002 & 2003. There is a courtyard with a spa as well as bbq areas. There are six rooms (non smoking) with king size beds and ensuites. Air conditioning and heating as well as TV's in all rooms. For guests there is the lounge, courtyard and a children's activity area to utilise.

Colonial Tavern
This hotel was built in 1906 and opened in 1907. It was originally called as McCarthys Hotel until 1910 when it changed hands and became known as the Club Hotel. The hotel did well even despite the depression and great wars of the 20s and 30s. In 1988 the hotel changed names again to the Colonial Hotel and today still retains the historical charm of its early days, so much so that it has been listed with the National Trust and Heritage Councils.
The hotel offers single, double and family occupancy with beautiful colonial furniture. There is also a restaurant which features an open fire place for cold winter days/nights, a Beer garden for summer enjoyment and the Ale and Tale Bar which features the original bar and jarrah shelving.

Avon Bridge Hotel
This hotel has also been known as Wildings hotel and railway hotel. Built in 1858, it is the oldest pub in Northam.
Their restaurant serves Breakfast from 6.00am to 9.00am, lunch from Noon to 2.00pm and dinner from 6.00pm to 8.30pm. They offer accommodation in the form of hotel rooms reasonably priced and a motel ensuite.

Liddgelow House
Liddgelow House was built in 1893 on the banks of the Avon River and has since been restored. The house is now a Bed and Breakfast offering two rooms with Queen size beds, air-conditioning, TV. ensuite, tea and coffee facilities and a bbq area. Of course a continental breakfast is included in the room rate.

Northam hotel
The old is on the main street and was built in 1887. They serve daily counter meals and a la carte from Monday to Saturday (12 to 2 and 6 to 9). There is also accommodation for backpackers. On Friday nights they have music to entertainment.

The Shamrock Hotel
is in the heart of Northam and was originally known as the Farmers Home Hotel when it was purchased by Joseph O'Hara. All the rooms have ensuites/spa. The hotel features, function rooms, restaurant, cafe, bar and beer garden.
The Gates Cafe has casual and relaxing dining and is fully licensed. Breakfast is from 7.00am to 9.00am. Lunch from Noon to 2.30p.m. and dinner is from 6.00pm to 8.30pm.

Uralia Bed & Breakfast
This property was originally known as Rosalyn and was also St John of God Hospital during 1947 - 1973. It was built in 1902/03 for George Lionel Throssell, who was part owner of the largest merchant business in Northam (Throssell, Son & Stewart). The building has been listed with the Heritage Council because of its fine example of Federation Free Style architecture. Usually during this time the larger residences were in Queen Anne style. The Federation style was more widely used for public buildings. Since 1988 it has been a private residence with a cottage B & B. They also sell antiques
