Olde world, the origional picture theatre era
We asked in the tourist info for a place to stay in the forest, not too expensive.
They came up with Lakeside retreat.
Wow,what a place, its $150 for a night and that gets you a cabin in the forest which is attached to the hosts house, a .lovely coueplf fom South Africa.
The cabin has 2 bedrooms and a great balcony overlooking their beautifully landscaped gardens.
They provide some fruit and cereal for breakfast.
It has a lovely huge llounge and tv with satellite and many DVDs.
It has a lovely balcony with BBQ, which we had to have.
They have two friendly labradors too.
A lovely relaxing retreat and great to walk around their 6 acres of garden which has a lake in it.
The Old Picture Theatre now serves as a luxury self-contained holiday apartments. There are 1-3 bedroom apartments which offer a fully equipped kitchen with microwave, gas hotplates, fridge, TV and video recorder. There is reverse cycle air con and internet/email access is available. There is a guest laundry, bbq area and huge indoor spa. The old theatre was built in 1929 and is a heritage building.
Its been a number of years since I stayed here but I found it pleasant and comfortable. The motel is very close to the Gloucester tree as well as the township. The hotel offers standard, budget, family rooms, deluxe self contained family suites which comprise 2 bedrooms and spa suites. There is a restaurant and bar which offers an a la carte menu and a good selection of wines
A great place to stay, whether you are tenting, have a camping van or want to stay in one of the self contained cabins. Close to town, picturesque location, very affordable.
In 2006 we stayed in a Bungaloo. Our little cabin had two bedrooms (the master with a queen size bed, and the other with a bunk bed), built in robes, a kitchenette with an oven, fridge/freezer, utensils etc and microwave, a small bathroom with toilet and shower, a meals area and small lounge with tv/vcr and a heater (essential). All linen was provided too. These cabins are suitable for up to 5 people.
In 2012 we stayed in an Ensuite Cabin. This little cabin had one bedroom with a queen size bed, and a little inset with a bunk bed. There were robes, a kitchenette with a gas cooker, small fridge/freezer, utensils etc and microwave, a small bathroom with toilet and shower, a meals area with tv/vcr and a heater (essential). All linen was provided too. It had a little balcony with table and chairs which was great in the evening. These cabins are suitable for up to 4 people.
There are additional bathrooms and laundry facilities on site too.
The camp kitchen looked lovely. The Pemby pool is nearby and you can walk to town.
Beautiful surroundings with wildlife galore that came up to the doors. There were ducks, parrots, wrens and quendas.
