Our 1st day in Perth
We arrived quite late in the afternoon as the flight from Kuala Lumpur was delayed due to technical problems. We supposed to depart at 0940 hours but we only departed from KLIA at 1100 hours.
Since the hotel check-in time in Perth is 1400 hours onwards, we didnt worry so much!
Checking-in was smoothly done. I booked the hotel through the web and it cost us AUD90 with no breakfast. Except for the room size - pretty small to our liking - all others are OK.
Basic toileteries are provided. Tea making facilities are available. A 20" TV on a small cabinet which also housed the ice box.
The staff is helpful and friendly too.
Unique Quality: At the corner of Pier street, the location is superb as it is closed to shopping area as well as dining places. Its also within the "Perth City Walk" area
Across the street is the Miss Maud restaurant. On the other side of the street is Curtin university which is next to the hospital.
For Muslims, Halal restaurants is just around the corner about 50m and 100m from the hotel.

Cheap for centralized location
This is a good place to stay if u want to stay within walking distance to everything in the city. This is good because taxis are so expensive.. the rate jumps real quick.
Staff are quite friendly too.. just that the lift is a little rickety.. and can only take 4pple MAX at a time.
No bath tub but rate i paid was definitely worth it.

Accomodations in Perth
Any recommendations for a reasonable priced hotel or bed and breakfast that is conveniently located close to transportation in Perth? Three friends and I are going to be in Perth for a couple days before returning to the states. We will be on a cruise that goes from Sydney to Perth. Also, what suggestions for the best place to shop in Perth. Thanks. Sue

You might want to think getting an apartment eg http://www.citystay.com.au, http://www.mounts-bay.com.au, http://www.westend.property.questwa.com.au.
Shopping: A short, easy train ride from the city is Harbour Town, "Shop 'til you Drop" - http://www.harbourtownperth.com.au. Also in the city check out Murray Street and Hay Street malls for specialty shops. Myers and David Jones are popular retail outlets.

You need to give us more of an idea about cost..what you like to do and what sort of shopping. For example, you might want to consider Fremantle (different shops) or Cottesloe, Scarborough (for beach location) or just in the heart of the city.

Consider South Perth as well, right on the Swan river opposite the city, only 10 minutes on the ferry and you are in the city. South Perth is a beautifull suburb, good restaurants, and nice river walks.

pity you didnt do homework and ask sue, she lives texas....
don't spend all in perth if you have to, take the train to bunbury and see a country town... city

Ibis is centrally located in Perth with easy access to train station and tourist information. It is also walking distance to Rottnest island ferry and nightlife spots.
