The best place to start looking is the car yards along Albany Highway in Victoria Park, an inner city suburb to the south-east of the city.

There are car yards galore all around the city but usually the best deals can be got either by visiting an auction or looking in the paper. One of the biggest and best Auctions is held every Tuesday at Pickles Auto Auctions in Balcatta, a suburb about 14km north of the city centre. Their website is http://www.pickles.com.au/cars/auction/?ed_branch_sale_type_id=550500001.
The other option is a classifieds paper called the Quokka, which sells for $2 at most newsagents and petrol stations. It has a huge range of cars many of which are very cheap.

Travel Tips for Perth

Lots of good places to visit...

by Aussie_bloke

Lots of good places to visit and, best of all, i'm told, compared to many other cities on the planet, Perth has very few people and is clean and quiet. A few sights u must get to see though are the beach/seaside/ocean (whatever u want to call it). Again, supposedly some of the most beautiful beaches in the world are to be found in Perth.

King's Park is another 'must see' for those with a few days here. It's a big open space park-land with grassed areas perfect fopr picnicking. You can also find the ANZAC memorial there (for our fallen WWI veterans). You will also find 'the whispering walll' there, a big, long stone wall that u have one person sit at either end of and u whisper to each other. Pretty cool.

The final sight-seeing place i'll mention in here (although there are MANY more) is Rottnest Island. This is a small (well, ok, tiny) island just off the coast (about a 45-minute ferry trip). Great to ride around on your bike, take a leisurely stroll, meet a Quokka (little kangaroo-like marsupial) and of course have a few drinks at the pub.

That's all i'll write about in here, feel free to email me with questions about other 'must see' sights. Again, because i live here, i have way too many fond memories to write about. Definitely playing on the beach as a kid and swimming for hours in the ocean has to be done if you are here in summer. It'll provide you with memories for years to come. Best spot would be Scarborough beach. There is also a shop up the top of the carpark called 'Peter's by the Sea'. They make great fish and chips, hamburgers, kebabs, etc. Perfect to cap off a day at the beach. DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN! Otherwise u will get very burnt, very quickly!!

Quite often you get the addresses but don't know where they are? Well here is a Perth street map. Hopefully it'll help you know where the streets are.

A 190 tonne Haulpak truck in...

A 190 tonne Haulpak truck in Mt Tom Price mine.We cut up 12 of these beasts for scrap after theyd worked for 5 years.Newer models carry 240 tonnes. Most of the drivers employed are women as apparently they dont get bored as easily....it takes 11 minutes at 3kph just to get to the top of the hill at the mine to dump a load. And when a tyre blows its about $8000 and a deafening minesite wide noise.

Wildlife Everywhere!!!

by DreamerDan

Australia's wildlife is so plentiful including the worlds most venomous creatures and that inlcudes Kangaroos which do NOT like to be petted. Also they are a major danger to your car whilst travelling.....much like deer they do incredible damage if you hit one. A tip if you come across a snake.....STAND STILL!! Every snake will not attack but if you stand still it will simply move off.

The Menzies Banksia

by keeweechic

Known as the jewel of Kings Park because it is the emblem also for Kings Park. Its mostly found in the bushland within the park but you will also find a lot in the gardens of Perth homes. There are many different varieties and shapes. This particular Banksia was named after Archibald Menzies, a British physician and botanical explorer with Vancouver's voyage to Australia in 1791.

The wood from the bush was once used as firewood because it burns easily and was given the more common name of Firewood Banksia.
