You don't say what time you arrive in Perth so it's impossible to say whether you'll have time to do the things you suggest that day.

Day 4 might be a bit rushed of you drive backl to Margaret River to the Chocolate Factory.

Why are you staying in Fremantle when everything you want to do is on the other side of Perth? You're looking at at least 1 hr 30 mins driving just to get from Fremantle to get from Fremantle to the Swan Valley, even longer to drive from Fremantle to Golden Grove. It's a pleasant drive out Chittering but I wouldn't suggest it as being anything so special as to make it a must do thing on your itinerary and you really don't have time on your last morning. I'd stay closer to Fremantle that morning, maybe go somewhere nice for a late breakfast, if it's a weekend day (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) spend some time around Fremantle Markets, or down by the Swan River or the beach. The Napoleon Street precinct in Cottesloe is fun for some window shopping, cafe sitting, people watching.

You will find that Margaret River, Yallingup and Busselton are all pretty close to each other. Once you get to your accommodation you may want to change your itinerary some what. Suggest that you book a wine tour when you get there. The wine tour will include visits to the chocolate and or fudge factory. Having spent some time recently in Margaret river I do have a map of the various places. I shall try and put it up on the weekend.

Hiya. I think that perhaps arriving in Perth and then travelling down to Margaret River and also doing the cave a stuff might be a bit too much for the first day. I would tend to grab your car and spend the night at that place in Freo (Quest Harbour Village) on the first night. Then you can start fresh the next day and travel down to Margaret River. Also when you come back - Day 8 might be a bit busy. I would tend toward spending the night at Quest Harbour Village on Day 7 instead of Mandurah. Then you can get an early start to go out to the Swan Valley for the wagon trail. Have you looked at perhaps staying out at the Swan Valley somewhere? It sort of seems a shame that you have to come and go from Fremantle....because the Chittering Valley is out that way too. Just a thought.

Travel Tips for Perth

Northbridge is the scene in Perth… The area boasts a multitude of ethnic restaurants, bars/pubs, bottle shops, cafes, music venues and all those funky shops your looking for. Certainly there are enough restaurants in this area to keep one busy for several weeks (perhaps even months) without repeating. Italian and Asian eateries are well represented, as are the Irish pubs (not too surprising that the Irish have cornered the market on the pub scene). It’s also one of those areas that still has a bit of an edge to it, as it is not uncommon to see the occasional homeless dude sitting on a bench or even sleeping in a doorway near all the people sitting at the outdoor tables and cafes.

Up or down the coast. Up the coast leads to Greenough where the trees grow as at a 90 degree angle to the ground.

Down the coast, Cape Naturalist. There are treetop walks that take your breath away.

Beautiful either way... Esperance. This place is as beautiful as they come. Hardly any tourists, and friendly people. The blue water meets the sandy beaches and the sun is beautiful. It's only a few hours from perth, but you're missing out if you don't visit...

Australian Christmas Tree

by keeweechic

A really beautiful native tree in Western Australia is the Australian Christmas Tree (or Nuytsia Floribunda). The tree belongs to the mistletoe family and can grow up to 33ft (10m) or more. Not the easiest trees to grow as it is a parasitic tree and partially relies on a host plant for nutrition. Just a beautiful bright yellow sight when you do come across them.

Check out Fremantle. That is where the Swan River meets the Indian Ocean and where the Americas Cup was defended. I highly recommend the marina and the excellent restaurants and pubs around the marina. Fremantle has a sense of small town about it, but with all the amenities that a city would have as it is virtually part of Perth.
Get there by following Stirling Hwy (north shore) or Canning Hwy (south shore)

Seafood at Christmas

by arianne_1504

While there still are traditionalists among us, more and more WA families enjoy seafood as a major part of their Christmas fare on the big day. Crayfish, prawns and crabs all suddenly increase in price. And Christmas is just as likely to be held outdoors as in the home.
