Countryside Motel

by sazaliy

I'd like to experience Perth countryside. Can anyone suggest a place to stay for 5 persons (I & wife + 3 kids).

I would suggest you look at staying in the Swan Valley. Only 30 minutes from the city centre, semi-rural, lots of vineyards and small holdings, loads of things to do for all ages with easy access to the city and further afield, several different accommodation options.
Check this website
http://www.swanvalley.com.au/en/default.htm for more details.

is a little further afield, in the hills to the north of the Swan Valley, but offers a great countryside experience

Travel Tips for Perth

spectacular but cool

by aussiebob

perth is located on the swan river. as such a lot of water activities play a big part in the travel activities.

great places to visit and explore within a few hours of perth city. the weather was a bit cooler than expected so carry a good variety of clothing.

Northbridge is where most of...

Northbridge is where most of the action is.Most hostels are based there and its the heart of the nightlife. The city is easy to navigate and only a 15 minute walk from northbridge. A trip to Fremantle is a must and if you have time, take a trip to Rottnest island. A trip south west of Perth is great too :
beaches,surfing,wineries...plenty to keep one occupied!.....and then theres the West coast, my favourite! Rottnest island was great for beaches. Its a short ferry trip form Fremantle to Rottnest. The island is home to Quokka's...tiny marsupials which are native to Western Australia and mainly only on Rottnest. hire a bike to navigate the island.
Fremantle is a great town, 30 minutes from Perth to chill out in one of its many cafes.
The nightlife in Northbridge is a backpacker haven!...free meals and drinks on selected nights see to a good night out.

ROTTNEST ISLAND

ROTTNEST ISLAND - I have stayed for the week and a few months later i returned for a day trip. Either one was great and i plan to return there in the future. My visits included a bike ride around the island, swimming, snorkelling, soaking in the sun, having breakfast at The Dome, Taking a boat tour and lots more. Rottnest is absolutely beautiful and worth even a day visit!!!!!!!

CLAPSTICKS

Australian Aboriginals used clapsticks as a percussion instrument in their dancing and singing.
In traditional Aboriginal corroborees clapsticks are used to provide the rhythm for the dance as the didgeridoo player provides the melody with his haunting sounds.

Today Aboriginal clapsticks are used all over the world as an ancient percussion instrument.

The clapsticks are made from either Iron wood - a very dense and heavy timber which provides for excellent sound quality or Wattle another beautifully grained timber with good sound properties.

Wear your thong between your toes

by Gwynneth

Many travellers to Australia maybe confused or even embarrassed when questioned over their thongs... you may hear questions or comments such as these:

1. "Did you bring your thongs?"
2. "We're going to the beach - don't forget your thongs"
3. "Just grab your thongs... we're only going to the deli"
4. "Leave your thongs at the door"
5. "Don't leave your thongs outside... our dog loves to chew them"

The thong is well worn around the world. I don't know where it originated but I do know that the Egyptians were wearing a kind of thong in 3000 BC and the Japanese have been wearing them like forever.

Thongs are better know elsewhere as:

Jandles
Sandles
Flip-Flops

But to us here in Austalia... they're thongs (we call the other things "G-strings"... BUTT that's a totally different cultural tip!!)
