Characterless

A ten minute walk from busy James Street and its cafes, bars, cinemas etc, The Northbridge Hotel is ideally located in a quiet spot at the top end of Lake Street. It's an imposing building with a long history - the building having been purchased back in the 1850s by a father and son who found the second largest single piece of gold in history with a value of, in today's market, more than $17 million!!!

With its bar, restaurant, conference and banquet rooms, its also a busy spot.

Which makes the hotel even more disappointing.

Unique Quality: Its problem is immediately apparent - it has absolutely no character. Standard issue carpets, standard issue wood finishes, standard issue marble floors, standard issue creamy yellow painted walls with no pictures, standard issue information leaflet racks, standard issue spotlessly clean.

Once past the reception - who were more efficient than friendly - enter wide corridors with the same carpets, painted walls etc and into rooms that - yep, same carpets, walls (one painting).

One of the strangest marketing policies of The Northbridge is that it is the only 4 star hotel in Perth with a spa in every room. I must admit I find it hard to see this as a selling point - the spa is IN THE ROOM. Sitting in the corner - no door to another room - lies the spa and shower directly onto the rest of the room. Odd.

To give it credit, the rooms are large and spacious. But with no separate bathroom (other than the toilet) everything, including the sink, is in the room with you. That reminds me of bedsits of TV and films of the 1950s England.

The Northbridge is not a place I would recommend.

The Northbridge Hotel... The Lodge

These are great people....Chinese owned, but managed by Aussies. Accommodations for "The Lodge" have to be made well in advance these days.... like two months if you want to be sure to have a room. These rooms have pretty good A/C and fans so are pretty functional even when Perth is "warm" (40C or 102F) in the summer! You will LOVE breakfast at "The Dizzy Witch" across the street or "Tarts" just next door.... and dinner at the Vietnamese place across on the corner or in the hotel restaurant or pub! It's a short walk down Lake St to Aberdeen St to catch the "C Cat Bus" (one of the free Perth Buses that loops into the CBD)! The "C Cat" loops all the way to the river at The Bells on Riverside Drive. Have coffee at Sassy's on the water!
From The Northbirdge .... with a "No Birds"/ Bayswater rental car (they are all white Toyota Corollas, and the cheapest cars to hire I found) ....Sunday morning it is 15 minutes to City Beach if you take Bulwer to Vincent (under the freeway) to beautiful Lake Monger Drive... turns into Grantham, then The Boulevard the rest of the way!!

Unique Quality: The Staff! So close to "The Dizzy Witch" and "Tarts"

In on the action

Hotel Northbridge is a relatively new boutique hotel in the centre of northbridge. Every room has a spa and all are quite large in size.
I found it quite odd at first to have the spa in the room and not in an enclosed bathroom, but it actually turned out quite well, as we could watch tv while in the spa. The toilet is seperated from the room. They have FREE in house movies.
The rooms are large and quiet and the hotel is close to many restaurants and pubs. The buffet breakfast is great too and the staff are very helpful.

Unique Quality: The spa in the room is something different and very handy if you want to watch a movie while you relax.
