Suite Stay

The Parmelia Hilton Perth proved to be quite the nice stay for us.

We arrived at the hotel about 10 minutes after noon. Upon entering the concierge desk ran out to take our bags. Normally I do not do this, but it was easier at the time to leave the bags with them and go to the front desk. They had a room ready for us although I rather feel it was not the room we were going to get if we waited to check in later. Not a big deal. We already felt like it was a long day after flying in from SYD that we really wanted to grab a shower and leave the bags and hit the ground running. The fact that the man at check in said I just need to verify your room is ready and then had it ready was the first of many service tops we noticed while here. We were given our room key and a cert for two complimentary drinks at either of their two bars that expired the next day. At this, we were on our way to our room.

We were given a room on the third floor which is the first floor of rooms. I believe the hotel goes up to eleven or so. To access the room floors you must insert your room key and then push the number. Only one key has to be inserted and then the elevator can fill up and push buttons. Our room was a nice larger sized room or as many might say a Junior Suite. I do not believe it was called this by the hotel though. The furniture is very dated and looks like it will fall apart if you sit on it. But the bed here was amazing. One of the best Hilton beds I’ve ever slept in.

The service staff were still getting things ready so they came by a couple of times. Complimentary water as diamond. Extra towels. Etc. Our luggage also showed up during this brief pause in our day before we hit the town running.

The room opened up to the right as you walk in. In front of you along the wall was a very low couch and table. On your right is the table holding the flat panel TV. The bed is along the wall to the far right facing back at the door and low couch.

Along the outer wall near the head of the bed was a desk. This is where the wired internet came in although there was so so reception of wifi in the room so this wasn’t needed. The really funny thing about the room is it had a rather large balcony. No reason to go out there as we were facing just other tall buildings, but it was there.

The bathroom is immediately to your right as you enter. It opens with a luggage rack to the right and double sinks to the left. Next to the luggage rack on the right is a stand up shower followed by a tub. The toilet is just sort of stuck there in the middle between the tub and sinks. Looked really out of place but it was functional so it works.

As we were running out we stopped by the concierge to ask about the best way to get to Fremantle without using a taxi. At the time we were under the impression we could take a ferry. As they were the entire stay, the staff was extremely helpful telling us to take the train and then pulling out a map and showing us where we were going. We have google maps when we travel from my phones and tablet, but it was nice that they were going to make sure we knew where we were going.

We returned to the hotel about 530pm meaning to shower up and hit some dinner. This did not happen. After a quick shower we hopped on the bed and turned on the tv. Next thing we knew it was 2am and were starting to stir. We at this time had one of the candy bars out of the mini bar. $4 for a chocolate bar. Yes, that’s expensive but it is not unreasonable to what you would expect. We were both surprised that we drifted off to sleep in that comfortable bed instead of getting dinner.

Breakfast in the morning was complimentary due to being a diamond. This was served in the Globe which is the main restaurant/bar/lounge of the hotel to the right as you walk in the main front door of the hotel from the street. This was quite a good sized room, but was packed just before 9am when we went down. It was a small buffet offering but it certainly did the trick. We were able to get all of the usual buffet items we wanted.

After breakfast I went to the front desk to ask about a late check out. We had a 10pm flight out that night and really wanted to know how to plan our day. When I was asked what time I would like I said 5pm just on a ask for the most and see what happens as this was 15 minutes before our scheduled ride to the airport. To my absolute shock, this was granted with no problem.

We decided to spend the day walking around and come back to the hotel shortly before heading out to the airport. It was perfect to come back, clean up and relax until our ride showed up.

When we checked out the Front Desk Manager (per name tag) asked how our stay was. I said it was fantastic and he seemed to genuinely care that I felt that way. Check out left us with a $4 mini bar bill which I quickly paid cash for. No sense using a credit card in an Australian hotel with a surcharge if you can avoid it.

We then headed over to the Globe which was quite crowded being just about 5pm. As such we did not see a seat. The staff came over to us at the bar and offered a seat in the restaurant section. This worked great for us and was just another example of them caring for the client. We finally used the drink cert for a second round of colas for us as one beer was enough for me at this point and LadyRVG wasn’t going to drink before flying.

After our drink we went out to the lobby and waited for our ride which showed up at 530. Once again, the concierge staff was right there to help us out the door and put our luggage in the van.

Start to finish, we had an excellent stay. Thank you to the entire team

Loved our suite !

The Hilton is located in a fantastic position for easy access into Perth CBD. We have stayed at numerous hotels in Perth and found the Hilton to offer the best for location. The Hilton is approx 25minutes from the airport and basically situated next door to the convention centre.

Our king river suite was on the 10th floor and had lovely views across the river and city surrounds. The suite was enormous, traditionally and elegantly furnished with a large lounge room with a balcony, separate dining room, an equally large separate bedroom with a beautiful king size bed. There were two bathrooms in the suite both exceptional, the en-suite also had a small spa bath too.

We absolutely loved our suite and had such a comfortable and enjoyable stay. If you can afford to stretch the budget then you will not be disappointed with this superb suite.

The Hilton also has an outdoor swimming pool; although small it was extremely private and offered a health gym centre on the same floor.

There are two terrific restaurants and three bars; the Globe Bar was very impressive and relaxing for having drinks after exploring or work. Staff were brilliant offering first-rate service and a credit to this establishment.

We only ordered breakfast as room service, as why let the dining table go to waste! And found everything to be just perfect.

The suite was expensive but worth every cent, we had an exceptional stay at the Hilton.

Unique Quality: Our king river suite.

Staff always very helpful and valet parking great even at $30 per day. Restauarant excellent lovely local steaks and seafood and good atmosphere. Rooms well equipped and breakfast has fresh fruit and everything you would want. Coffeee shop good.

Unique Quality: Good location in CBD and near shopping areas and King Street shops. Pool, not heated, on 2nd level adequate but not great.

Small but perfectly formed.

On our friends wedding day we all stayed at the Hilton, our room was a small double and the bed was a bit hard but everything else was just great. Steff ordered a small meal and it arrived promptly and reasonably priced, the mini bar was well stocked but we were still getting through our duty free so we ignored it but best of all was the fantastic view of the water and the boats.
It seems that wherever you are in Perth you can see the water.
We went down for breakfast and were amazed at the variety of food on offer, there was even a Japnese Miso bar for soup and noodles, a wide selection of exotic fruits and dairy produce, worth every penny.

Unique Quality: Relaxed and friendly, easy access to the city and the parks.

More about Parmelia Hilton

Cheaper rooms are very good value and comfortable

by TripAdvisor Member Bindoon

We stayed (again) at the Parmelia Hilton, Perth last Friday. As the other reviewers say the cheaper rooms (usually available under AUD100) are excellent value. Our ‘Queen Guest Bedroom’ was well maintained with a small balcony giving us river glimpse. The bed was very comfortable and we made use of the ‘pillow menu’ to get great pillows (delivered with prompt courtesy). Bathrobes were provided and in bathroom there were quality toiletries. The bathroom was a little run down but very clean and functional. The Hilton security, service and location in the CBD make these cheaper rooms unbelievable value. Check in and check out was quick and easy, valet parking useful and we had very pleasant stay. Those who want the luxury end of the accommodation should get a higher priced room; - the Deluxe and Executive rooms are all you expect in Hilton luxury – very spacious and nice. We had a meal at the Adelphi Steak House. The meal was very good with excellent service and a good menu choice.

Not a pleasant stay!!

by TripAdvisor Member kellymoon

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights in October. We were happy to be staying at a Hilton after a few unpleasant hotel stays in WA. The bell hops were fantastic (particularly Graeme). They were extremely helpful and polite. Check in was also good and the lobby of the hotel was very nice. That was the last pleasant thing about this hotel. Our room was extremely small, there was barely enough room for 2 suitcases to be laid on the floor and still be able to walk around the room. We went to the Adelphi restaurant in the hotel for supper on our first night. The service was awful, the food was awful and we decided we wouldn't come back. Well the second night we couldn't find anything open after 5pm so we had no choice but to go back. The food and service was just as awful as the first night. The third night we got room service and it was great.

The biggest problem we had with this hotel was the bed. On our first night my boyfriend went to get in bed and noticed that there was dried blood all over his bed sheets and over the floor next to the bed. It wasn't a blood stain on the sheets that had been washed, there was recent dried blood all over the place. This was the first time he used the bed so we knew it wasn't him plus he hadn't cut himself in any way pretty much making it impossible to have bled everywhere and not have known it. We called down to the reception and the first thing she said was "are you sure it wasn't you?". After we convinced her that we hadn't even touched the bed before this she said she'd send up a maid. I thought we would be moved to another room but no that was not an option. A maid came up and then again we had to convince her that no the blood did not come from us. So she started to make the bed with new sheets and then informed us she didn't know how to do it so it might not be perfect. I don't know why she wouldn't know how to make a bed but by this point I just wanted to go to sleep. She finished and left. Then we noticed that she in fact didn't know how to make the bed because she only gave us a fitted sheet, no flat sheet. We called reception again. This time she dropped the flat sheet off at the door and left. So, after anticipating a lovely time at the Hilton I ended up with blood all over my room and making my own bed in the middle of the night.

Pretty average

by TripAdvisor Member Grungle

$295.00 per night was the rate my company paid, where $130.00 would have been a fairer amount. Was meant to have a non-smoking room, but upon entering the room it was clearly evident the previous guest was a smoker. The rooms are poorly lit and the noise from other rooms is clearly heard, especially the plumbing.
On a positive note, the staff are fantastic and meals i had were very good.

Hotel infrastructure needs a bit of an update in my opinion.

Great Deal for $99AUD

by TripAdvisor Member winediva

We booked a "Friday Night Special" on wotif.com and found it to be a pretty good deal. Hotel is in a fairly good location and easy to find but I wouldn't really say that it is a 5-star hotel - maybe in its heyday it might've been better but it is starting to feel a bit outdated.

We booked a standard room but upon check-in we were "upgraded" which I thought was nice. But to our surprise, the upgraded room was still fairly small with not much of a view. The bed was very comfortable and had the best night stay during our long weekend holiday. The bell service was efficient and helpful.

Can't comment on the restaurant but had a drink at the bar and the service was good even late at night.

It is a decent hotel to stay in - clean and comfortable but I would think twice about paying more than $160 for this room.

Good hotel for $90 per night

by TripAdvisor Member Legalybl0nde

We stayed at the Parmelia Hilton between Christmas and New Year.

After paying only $90 per night for 5 nights, I was really looking forward to 5 star luxury.

We had a standard room which was very small, but luxuriously appointed. The only issue I had was that the window in the room was very small, so there was no lookout.

On Boxing Day morning, we went down to have breakfast in the restaurant. We were not advised of the price, and when we received the bill, we discovered that it was $35 per person and then they had the gall to charge us a further 10% surcharge because it was a public holiday. The breakfast was definately not worth the money.

The hotel is well positioned, however there are no shops of restaurants in the nearby vicinity, the CBD of Perth is relatively quiet and we would walk over to Northbridge each night (20 minutes) for dinner.

Overall, I would recommend the hotel at the price we paid, but the rooms are certainly not worth the rack rate.

Still impressed, but a little stretched.....

by TripAdvisor Member Swig

I stay here as a frequent traveller, but am amazed that the hotel doesn't seem to recognise the return visitors (800870682)... Last time I visited the hotel (my 13th or so stay this year) I was awarded the 3rd floor - above the gym floor.... out of 10 possible floors....a letter welcomed me as a Blue member (even though I was Silver). Not meaning to sound "nobby", this place doesn't recognise loyalty easily. Shame really. The final straw was when a colleague stayed recently (very rare traveller) and he was very happy in his suite.....

Bring Simon the White back to the Rydges Perth - that was service and rcognition of loyalty.... Shouldn't have strayed I s'pose....

Still, I stand by many reviews, the service of the ground crew at Perth Hilton is commendable and greatly appreciated - it saves the Hotel from mass exodus to other mirages... C'mon - get with it!

Booo! What a shame. : (
