Location Location!
Perth YHA is a relatively new backpackers accommodation. The location is just right!...being in a good area and not far from the city centre and train station. DennyP and Bijo69 have stayed here and say that the rooms are big and staff helpful and it's also nice and clean.

Perth Hostel - Cheap and Clean
I splurged and got a double room for myself...unable to bear the thought of sharing a dorm with god knows who....been there and done that before. The hostel is fantastically clean and new. The kitchen is modern and spotlessly clean. Staff are reasonably friendly and knowledgible...there was one guy on the front desk who seemed like a d!ckhead...but you get that. It does not have much of a "vibe" and it seems a little sterile. If you are only looking for a clean and safe place to sleep at a reasonable price it is an excellent choice.
Unique Quality: YHA has converted the St. John Ambulance building at 300 Wellington Street, Perth into a 240-bed 'flagship' hostel providing superior quality accommodation in the heart of Perth. Perth City YHA opened it's doors on Friday 17th March 2006.

Just another hostel
The YHA in Perth is a rather big ans soul-less place to stay. It's more or less clean and all the rooms have aircon.
Unfortunately you've got the rail tracks right behind the building, so bring earplugs!
There are very comfortable lounges on each floor and a big kitchen on the 1st floor. You also find quite a few computers on the 1st floor should you miss your dose of VT.
If you're too lazy to cook, there's a café in the building which is open for breakfast & lunch.

Clean city centre hostel with good facilities
In the former Ambulance station, the new City YHA has all modern faclilites housed in a building with loads of character and only 5 mins walk to city centre. The bus stationa and train station are equally as close.
Everything is very clean and as youd expect, modern. There are all the facilities you would expect of a hostel and plenty of room in communal areas.
There is also a Travel Centre on site.
The downsides to this hostel are the fact that it is new, big and right next to the train tracks. I think being new means the staff must be new as they didnt seem to know much about local area or travel options when asked. They were trying to be helpful but it seemed a challenge unlike 'old heads' you usually find in such places. The woman who served us at the travel desk was about as much use as a chocolate fireguard!! The size of the hostel meant it lacked atmosphere and the noise of the trains was disturbing when trying to sleep.
Unique Quality: Very close proximity to transport connections and city centre.
