Contact the Shire of Rockingham or Department of Infrastructure if you are wanting to kayak in this area.
If you are wanting to kayak in other areas contact Sea Kayak lub of WA on 9339 2952.

I live in Rockingham and the only islands I know of are Seal, Penguin and Garden islands.
I believe Seal island is a sanctuary of the seals and does not permit landing at any time of year.
Penguin Island is closed to visitors in winter to protect the Fairy penguins during their breeding season.
Garden Island is a naval base and does not permit visitors except on special open days.
Rottnest Island is a little further north, but further out and I'm not sure if too far to go by kayak(20k, 14 nautical miles and the sea can be rough), I've just done a quick goggle and there were adverts for tours kayaking AROUND Rottnest, but none going to it. Didn't find anything else that might be of interest to you.
You could still kayak AROUND Seal and Penguin Islands, but not land on them. You could travel down the coast to Mandurah or up towards Fremantle and Perth.

Travel Tips for Rockingham

Refinery beaches

by Gwynneth

Rockingham is known, mainly by those who don't live there, by it's Nickel refinery and light industry production. But I also discovered that crayfishing, fishing, market gardening, boat building, structural engineering, horticulture and viticulture can be found down and around the land mark grain silos.

Rockingham is growing.

by Purpleshade

Rockingham has always been popular as a holiday place for the residents of Perth. Many people have had holiday homes here for the last 50 years.

But now it's changing. It's growing and developing. It's a rapidly growing area of new housing and also of new hotels. This hotel on the seafront has only just been completed, and there are more hotels/apartments being built.

There is a new development (not completed) right on the beachfront known as the 'Rockingham Village' The old oval has dissapeared but there is a new village green

The railway is being extended from Perth down to Rockingham. It is due for completion Dec 06.

Update 2009
Rockingham has grown enormously and is no longer a sleepy country town.
The new'Rockingham Village' and development of the beachfront has been completed.
It now only takes 36 minutes to get into Perth (by train) and many people commute daily.
1000's of new houses have been built and the shopping centre has been considerably enlarged.

Musselfest v MuscleCars

by Gwynneth

Tina, Steve, Jami and I were meeting Lesley and Jethro at the Musselfest so we could enjoy the festival together. It didn't take long before we were sampling the hot macadamia nuts, fairyfloss and fresh cooked flavours of Peru! The mussels didn't make a very large impacked at the festival however we did enjoy walking around the market stalls

There was a small display of Muscle Cars that grabbed my daughters attention! Here's some of the photo's she took.

Ugg Boots

by Purpleshade

Ugg boots are heavy duty slippers made from sheepskin, very warm and very comfortable. As the days are often warm, even in winter, some people wear their ugg boots with shorts. This generally considered to be a fashion no-no, Similarly, even though they have thick crepe soles, they are not intened for going out in.

We all go to Bunnings on the Public Holidays.

by Purpleshade

Bunnings is a major chain of hardware shops in Australia. They have massive 'Bunnings Warehouses' and sell all the stuff you need to maintain your garden, pond, pool and do any DIY project. They also stock craft materials and many houshold goods.
They're open every day of the year (except Christmas Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day) from 7am-7pm and are always very busy on public holidays, it seems as though half of the population of Rockingham is there.
