Travel Tips for Warburton
On the Great Central 'Road'.
"The Warburton area."
Very roughly half way across from Laverton, W.A. to Uluru, N.T. It was the one overnight stop at the petrol station/motel in the vicinity of the aboriginal settlement.
All the facilities there were what you would expect and hope for on such an adventurous journey.
I got a good night's sleep and 'Siggy' was waiting as usual in the morning.
Rarin' to go - further east. An unusual heading on her round Aussie tripping.
Coping superbly with the very many kilometres of unsealed 'road'.
Coming towards Len Bidell's historic 'gunbarrel highways' localities.
And Lassiter's cave.
Travelling the Great Central Road
Warburton is essentially an Aboriginal community in the Gibson Desert along the Great Central Road. The community has set up a road house so fuel and supplies are available. The community itself is off limits to travellers. The road is unsealed and subject to the vagaries of the weather. Whilst for desert country you'd expect dry or even hot conditions, this year there's been quite a lot of rain through that region. This can quickly make the road impassable, or just difficult.
Permits are required to travel through this country but they are easy to obtain. This can be done over the internet for the West Australian part of the road. For the NT side you can get an application over the internet but it needs to be faxed or mailed to the Central Land Council in Alice Springs.
