More about Sea Change Villas
Honeymoon in Paradise
We spent a week at Sea Change Villas as part of our honeymoon and it was a wonderful experience.
The airport transfers were in a private air conditioned car, which made the arrival and departure stress free. The resort itself was beautiful, well appointed and perfect for relaxation. The beachfront villas have wonderful views and are perfect for chilling out. The owners were extremely generous in their hospitality and very helpful, ensuring that there was nothing to worry about.
I can not recommend our stay here enough - it really was a week in paradise.
Rave reviews are well deserved!
We just returned home after spending 9 fabulous nights at Sea Change Villas for our honeymoon. We stayed in a plantation villa which was luxurious, very private and to our surprise had ocean views. The well equipped kitchen made self-catering an enjoyable option, and was complete with a blender to make yummy tropical smoothies every day!
We also made use of the complimentary snorkels and canoes and found the beach directly in front of Sea Change was fantastic for snorkelling and swimming. A scooter was also included in our accommodation package and we had a great time exploring the island. Being located at the half-way point around the island adds to the seclusion of Sea Change, and also means that it's really close to great restaurants, resorts with Island Nights and also to the main town of Avarua.
Everything about our stay at Sea Change was hassle free and enjoyable. We cannot recommend these villas highly enough and we will definately be returning.
We stayed for five absolutely wonderful days and nights at Sea Change
Villas, without hesitation I will say that it was the beautiful accomodation that the villas had to offer that made our stay in Rarotonga so "purrfect", Judy gave us such a warm, friendly reception
as we arrived in a private car which met us on arrival with a lovely scented 'ei ' each, it made us feel very special. There are numerous places to eat within a very short distance from the villas, Saltwater
Cafe just meters down the road provided us with one excellent breakfast and one sooo delicious dinner and cocktails to die for. Back to the villas, huge ,a very comfortable bed (I want one), large bathroom, huge shower and everything immaculately clean,(the staff very unobtrusively came in every morning, clean towels, made bed, cleaned up, gone in a flash!) Snorkeling gear, canoes etc there to use, Sea Change, I feel, is worth every cent, we loved it!
A Gorgeous Retreat
My husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversary with a week-long stay in Sea Change's villa #2 in March 2007. From the moment we stepped into our temporary "home," we were astonished at its loveliness and the attention to detail that the (very friendly and helpful) owners had paid to ensure complete privacy and self-sufficiency.
They had not only left a large woven hamper filled with snacks, cereals, jams, champagne, etc. for us, but there were eggs, butter, juice and milk in the refrigerator and a fresh loaf of bread on the kitchen counter as well. When we decided we'd like to eat in that night, our hosts cheerfully drove us right down to a nearby market so we could stock up on additional provisions. The kitchen was outfitted with every utensil and appliance you could ask for.
The villa itself is very clean, elegantly decorated, and new-feeling with an open floor plan that allows one to take in the spectacular ocean views from everywhere (except the bathroom--which is also lovely). The entire wall fronting the ocean is composed of floor to ceiling windows which can be cantilevered completely open to the air. The outside deck wraps around two sides of the villa with a small pool, deck chairs and table, and is completely screened for privacy from any wandering eye yet still open to the glorious views.
The white sandy beach is literally steps away, and one can wander out into the clear aquamarine water quite a distance before depth is actually encountered. Kayaks, snorkeling gear, and bicycles are there for the borrowing.
Our only regret was a small misunderstanding regarding our VIP transportation returning us to the airport.
Our only suggestion would be to provide satellite TV programming, although there was a large DVD library at the office across the street and plenty of books provided both in the office and in our villa itself.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sea Change Villas. Very highly recommended.
My wife and i spent 12 nights at the superb sea change villas on the occasion of our silver wedding anniversary .
On arrival at rarotonga airport we were delighted to find that we were being transferred to our villas by car rather than being herded on to a bus and stopping at every resort on route only to find that we are last ones to be dropped off. This is a very nice touch by the owners Rob and Deborrah. This meant we had a great start to our holiday as within half an hour we were at sea change to be welcomed by Haina (apologies if the spelling is wrong) who told us that because it was our silver anniversary we had been upgraded to beach front rvilla rather than the plantation villa that we had booked.,
The villa itself was spotlessly clean and superbly well appointed and it really felt like a home from home .
It had taken us 36 hours from the time we left home in Scotland to arrive in rarotonga and so we were glad to see the king size four poster bed and soon fell asleep, but what a sight we wakened up to with the sun strreaming in the windows and the white sandy beach and tuquoise lagoon in full view.
What a wonderful start to a wonderful holiday.
Top marks to Rob and Debbie and their staff for these superb villas and everything thayt they done for us in the time we were there.
We really enjoyed our time in Rarotonga where we found the local people so very friendly and hopefully we will return to this wonderful island some time in the future.
A Tranquil Magicial Place
Sea Change villas was was the perfect spot for our Honeymoon. Upon arrival at the airport we had a private car waiting to collect us and take us to our villa(what a thoughtful inclusion). Our expectations where high and when we opened the door ; this place EXCEEDED our expectations, the sparkling blue water of our private pool was inviting, the villa had every need and want catered for, double shower, fully contained kitchen, lovely cane furniture, open plan bright , breezy and fantastic water views, a romantic four poster bed, draped with mosquito netting and candles positioned around the villa......this list could go on forever. Outdoors was our private front deck over looking lush tropical gardens with the most magical view of the lagoon and the white caps of the breaking ocean waves.
The staff (Hina) and the owners Rob and Deb (and pepi the dog) are the most creative and lovely people and this shows in the layout of the villas and in the way they are positioned, thank you guys it is a great credit to you both.
As for the rest of the island, WOW! some breathtaking spots for swimming, snorkeling (the fish eat out of your hands), or riding around on your scooter(a must to hire). The Safari is a must and say hello to Mr T.(the locals are great fun)
Well I could talk about this MAGICAL PLACE place in the pacific for days............THIS IS NOW OUR ISLAND HOME!!!!

A great place to relax!
My wife and I spent six wonderful days in Villia No. 1. The veiws from the Villia are spectacular, with the colors of the lagoon changing from gray to brilliant blue with the sun conditions. The soothing sound of the surf crashing on the reef is a splendid way to lull yourself to sleep. The stars at night were vivid, and made for a wonderful evening on the deck with a glass of wine.
The private pool is small, but perfect for cooling off on those hot days when you've been hiking or biking on the island. it's very private, with fence and locking gate. You'll not likely find such a feature at many other accomodations on the Island. Management provides snorkeling gear or kayaks for your use: these come in handy for hours of entertainment in the lagoon. They also provide bicycles if you are so inclined. Taking a relaxing stroll up and down the expansive beaches is nothing short of a good time, and are accessible right out the front door. One unique thing about the villias is that the sit adjacent to a fresh water creek that comes down from the mountains above. This water is cool and clear, and nice place to wade for a quick cool off.
The villias are almost exactly halfway around the island. So going clockwise or anticlockwise to get to Avarua(the main city) gets you there in the same time, leaving your choice of direction to the sites you want to see. The bus transportation is adequate, and will stop right where you stand.
These places are nice, but if you expecting a luxurious 5 star villia, that isn't what you'll get. They are are among the best accomodations on the island. These are well appointed villias with everything you will need for your island stay. They are private, clean, airy(open), and air conditioned if you don't want to open the louvers and let the sea air in. House cleaning is done every day, and done well.
The management are great people, and very attentive to your needs.. They give you your privacy, but are there to assist you with anything you might need. The Island lifestyle is layed back, and not rushed at all: emphasis on "at all." Things move slow, and the business hours reflect that. If you want speed, don't go to Rarotonga. If you want relaxation and wonderful people, enjoy - that's what you'll get.
Now, comments on one review about plastic plants neglect a little issue: this is a tropical island with bugs. Plastic plants provide ambiance, but no bugs. Real plants need maintainence and support bugs. So, I think the plastic plant provide a nice touch and no haven for bugs - smart on management's behalf.
Rarotonga has a culture that is quite different from those in the industrialized world. Things move slow, and that is just fine. Take advantage of it. Breath. Relax. Enjoy.
Beautiful Last Minute Resort
After traveling half way around the world to be very let down (= owner rented out the place we'd reserved 6 months prior) by another set of "villas" on Rarotonga (which will remain unnamed here so as to avoid confusion, but if you view my other reviews, you'll see which establishment it was), we were so elated that Sea Change happened to have a beach bungalow available that afternoon due to a cancellation as when doing research, we didn't see a whole lot on the island that impressed us. It's amazing how fortuitous one could end up after such an unfortunate, hellish circumstance.
The beach villa we got was behind a gate right off the main two-lane road that goes around the island. But there was barely any traffic noise for the most part. There's a small, private pool behind the gate before you reach the sliding door entrance into the villa. The villa itself was immense for a 1 bedroom with 3 fans and AC - which we did not need to use most of the time as the villa was very well designed to facilitate cross-ventilation of the natural ocean breezes that keep Rarotonga cooler than Aitutaki.
The decor in the villa is upscale modern island, as you can see from the website - and what you see is exactly what you get. We were surprised the plants, which we reasoned was placed throughout to give the villa color and fill up space so that it would feel more like a large bungalow, were "silk". We supposed the proprietors' rationale was so that guests would not have to contend w/ insects inside. We have to remind ourselves that It is the tropics.
As it was stormy a good part of the time we were there, the villa was a wonderful haven to retreat to. That's when we noticed that the dog next door barked more often than expected. Maybe they can ask the neighbors to put him on the other side of their house if other guests mind. So if you want a completely tranquil stay, request the other 2 vilas, especially if you're paying rack (non-packaged) rate. (Looking at the posted candid pictures, the middle villa may have the most lush, tropical view.) Speaking of rates, the hosts graciously gave us a last-minute rate; we're not the type to splurge for the listed rate. We were a little disappointed to not have received all the special treatments that came w/ the full rate (e.g. complimentary transport to the airport) as we were guests just the same.
When we went snorkeling in the ocean right behind the villa, we realized it was very rocky w/ practically no fish to see for meters out. We'd done plenty of snorkeling in open water and didn't feel like we were missing anything. You may want to ask what other areas of the island are good for snorkeling.
WOW!! What a wonderful start to our Honeymoon. Sea Change was everything we hoped for and more. We were in beachfront Villa # 1, it was beautifully decorated and although it was beside the beach access path for all of the villas, and the kayak storage, it still felt incredibly private.
The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, you can help yourself to the complimentary bikes, kayaks, snorkelling gear or DVD's if you want to stay in.
We had Lorna's Champagne Dinner ($125) on our last night there and it was fantastic. She brings everything prepared for you, throws the tablecloth over and lays your dinner out and then leaves you to enjoy it and the ocean view.
We went to Island Night at the Rarotongan, a nice buffet dinner and show, we had to share a table with 2 other couples but that wasn't a problem.
Although there is no room service or restaurant you are provided with a snack basket on arrival which has enough cereal for a few days as well as peanuts and chips and we just went into Avarua and got our own food at the supermarket. The Saltwater Cafe is just 2 mins walk down the road and we used it to get lunch a couple of times, the dinner menu looked good too.
We ate at Trader Jacks on our first night there, not bad but a little overpriced and all of the seafood on the platter seemed to be undercooked.
We ate at Tamarind House on our return to Rarotonga before flying out and it was SENSATIONAL. We wished we had discovered it earlier. The menu is fantastic, service outstanding and the setting is gorgeous. Make sure you book though!
The bus system makes it relatively easy to get around if you don't mind waiting and runs from 6-11 at night so you can get around for dinner, it only goes clockwise so you may get stuck going around the entire island to get home, it's about 45 mins. During the day it runs both ways.
We would definitely recommend Sea Change, perfect for a Honeymoon or romantic getaway. Once you are done in Rarotonga make sure you travel to Aitutaki, it's STUNNING!!!
Simply the Best Choice
this was truly our dream come true!
my wife and i stayed here for the first three nights of our honeymoon, and it was simply the best.
the view, room, amenities, service are flawless, and we were thoroughly impressed by them all.
i highly recommend this place to anyone if you could afford it.
the only downside is: if you are on the ocean front villa, you may want to watch out for privacy, for without curtains, it's easy for people to peek through (we stayed in #1), and the location is a bit out from the downtown area. but these two items are nothing to complain about.
my wife and i still dream about this place.
we want to go back and re-live the dream if we can.
