Royal hotel is the place to stay in Levuka. It's an experience on its own as the hostel has such a colonial feeling. It's like going back in time, or entering into an Agathe Christie murder mystery novel (except for the murder of course!) cos the atmosphere is so thick. Even the budget traveller can afford a private room here, but there are 3-bed doorms as well. There are several lounges on the bottom floor, a snooker room, a tv room with an 8 pm dvd shown. A "breakfast" is served until after-noon where you can compose your own meal of toasts, weet-bix, coffee etc. There's a pool. It's a bit tricky to find, look out for the signs or ask someone. The rooms are cosy with a view over either the sea or the mountains. There were some tiny creature wandering around the wall by the sink, but nothing big and bad. The staff can be hard to find and they show no signs of being in a hurry to come help you, but when they're around they're friendly. A highly recommended place in a highly recommended small town!
