Accommodation and taxis

by leighjohnson

Can anyone recommend accom in Fiji. Staying for three days only in school holidays. We want something affordable to the budget but within easy reach of local shops, eating areas etc. Any areas better than others eg Coral Coast, Denarau?? Also, is it any cheaper/ easier to get a taxi from Nadi airport or should I just go with the travel agents transfers. I have been told it is more difficult to get taxis in Fiji. Any help appreciated - need to get something booked asap.
Thanks

Go to Toberua Island Resort www.relaxfiji.co.nz
They're advertising 30 - 40% off the rates on the radio at the moment.
You can call them on 0800 relaxfiji (0800 735 293 454)if you're in NZ and ask questions there.

or go to Crusoes Retreat http://www.crusoesretreat.com/home.php

There's a group of 30 of us booked in at both resorts in June 07.

I would recommend an island resort like Plantation or Tresure much nicer than being in town. There are some resorts around Nadi Bay like Smugglers Cove or Club Fiji that might be better for kids than an hotel. Both have easy access to Nadi town by shuttle bus or taxi. First Llanding is a bit more upmarket and is 20 mins from town but a great resort with an island feel. With such short time I would not even consider going to the coral coast you lose half a day.

Romantic holiday in Fiji... suggestions??

by aussie75

HI everybody!!
my boyfriend and I are planning a holiday for New Year's Eve and we thought about Fiji because we want beaches, no jellyfish (like in North Australia at that time of the year_), relax and warm weather!

Has anyone been there?? any place that you would suggest? we are thinking about the islands because we want a place with not too many tourists!!

There are 2 resorts that we have found on brochures:
1. PLantation Island Resort (on mamanuca Group of Islands)
2. Matamanoa Island resort (as well on the same group of islands)

Has anyone been there???? what did you think????
Thank you so much!!!!!!!
Micky

My only experience of Fiji was staying at the Outrigger resort on the Coral Coast. I'm going back in February, and really enjoyed my stay. There are some pics on my Fiji page if you wanted a look - great pool and grounds.

That said, I understand that the really nice beaches etc are to be found on the smaller island groups. I don't know if that means fewer tourists, but I understand that Jan/Feb is the quieter (and hotter and damper!) season.

I haven't been to either of those places, but I love Fiji. It is beautiful and the people are wonderful. One thing I did that a lot of people seem to miss is that I spent time on Viti Levu (the main big island). The interior is amazing- with mountains and rivers (where you can kayak or raft), and remote villages.

HI, I haven't been to these two places either, but I'm also planning a holiday in Fiji and Samoa right now, and from what I've been reading about Samoa it sounds much more like the perfect romantic destination than Fiji (esp. if don't want many tourists). I'm thinking of staying at Virgin Cove which sounds great (http://www.virgin-cove.ws). It's fale accommodation though, if you're looking more for up-market resort style accommodation you're better off with Fiji.

If you haven't booked this already... check out Toberua Island resort. It is a little expensive, but I thought it was worth every penny. http://www.toberua.com

It is not crowded, very private, very friendly. You won't be disappointed! Good luck.

For you and your boyfriend. Definitely Matamanoa.
All year round policy of no kids under 12.
Try for the Garden View if you can as it can be quite hot.

Travel Tips for Suva

Quiet, warm, tropical=paradise

by limmerda

"A small capital."

Suva is a small town, but it has great things if yo are a backpacker. There are lots of little restaurants and hotels to choose from. My most memorable moment about suva is taking my final. I actually took one on my online finals in an internet cafe in suva. I can' think of a better place to take a test. The only problem was lugging my text books and binders half way around the world. If you are looking fo shopping places, try the open air market down by the water front. Lots of great deals on jewelery, masks and other Fijian items. Much cheaper than the hotel gift shops.

A: "First, you should not worry about biking. Not necessaily what you are used to, but not a problem. Second, yes raincoats are good but need to be lightweight. Far different..."
