Bobo's farm: Ovalau getaway
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Bobo's farm is in the small village of RukuRuku on the island of Ovalau. RukuRuku is on the opposite side of the island from Levuka. The cost is 25 per night plus meals. The meals are some of the best you will get in Fiji. They serve all kinds of exotic Fijian food, like ferm pronds, or freshwater prawns from the stream out back. The guesthouse is new and very clean with full sized beds!! The guest house is located out back of Bobo and Karens house, which is quite posh for Fiji. To make arrangements go to the dive shop in levuka and take talk to the lady there, or email direct at Bobosfarm@yahoo.com I doubt that a reservation will be nessesary. If you do try to make a reservation by email I suggest trying at least 3 weeks early, because they access eamil at the dive shop about an hours drive away! The farm is reached by carrier or catch a ride with Karen on a grocery run. They have a good web site at http://www.owlfiji.com/bobosfarm.htm

Davids place: Best value in Yasawas
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Davids place is on the island of Tavewa. It is near to Oto and Fannys place which is more expensive. The people and food are great. Be sure and be there on thursday for the Lovo feast. At Oto and Fannys there is a proper bakery which sells tea and goodies very cheap daily. The grounds are amoung a spacious coconut plantation. There is a good volly ball court, where every after noon the games begin, and a lady from the resort referees, if her call is protested, she will YELL "everybody shutup and play". There are two dive shops on the island, one caters to most of the resorts in teh islands and charges about 90$F for a dive. This is the one the resort pushes. On down the beah a little way is another shop. Kelly, a half fijian have kiwi runs the shop. He caters to backpackers and you can dive the first dive for $F50 and $F35 for every other, with equipment included.

Orsman's bay: Best beach in the Yasawas
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Orsman's bay is on the island of Nacula(pronounced Nathula) . The hostel is ran by the village on the other side of the island. They also run safelanding resort around the point on the same island. The food was very good and the accomodations really clean. I found the place overpriced for backpackers at $F75 per night, including meals. There was however very good snorkling and swimming regardless of the tide, which is rare in fiji. Another odd thing is that they ONLY except credit cards.

Sunrise resort: Worst place in the Yasawas
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • When we arrived at Sunrise we were greeted with a totally unorginized registration process. Some people who thought they had reservations were told they didnt and some with no reservations(me) were registered without delay! Then a school cafeteria style meal was served...before which we were "made" to bow and say grace, by a fijian lady resembling a villan from a James Bond film. During the night is the cramped dark dorm, about 3am, a cat jumped onto my chest got tangled in the mozzy net. I yelled like a girl, waking the entire dorm. We left promoly the next day with no onward resrvations, because the lady in the office refused to use the phone for us! To top it all off this place was $F45 just like most other places in the Yasawas.

    Sunseekers hotel: Near to Nadi
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Sunseekers is within 5 minutes walk of the main drag in Nadi. In 15 minutes you can walk to the Hindu temple that is in all the guide books. Sunseekers has dorms for $F8.50 and privates with 2 double beds for $F35. They have a pool and a bar(beer only). The bartender turns out to be a very good musician, like a fijian bob marley. If you stay in the dorm ask to be on the top floor..it is a better room. I stayed there 3 different times and enjoyed them all. Sunseekers has free pickup from the airport($F8 value) and is on the route for pickup by awsome adventures bus to the marina at Deneru.

Susie's Plantation Resort: Away from everything on Taveuni
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Susies, is a very well kept hostel with dorms and bures. It is ran by a Swiss german guy named Roland(divemaster) and his girlfriend Viola. The food was excellent and the snorkling and diving were great. Snorkling was great right off the rock boat dock, some of the best I saw in Fiji. There was no beach, but a large grassy lawn that went right up to the rocky shore. Swimming was possible from the dock. Roland dives the Rainbow reef and the Great white wall, which are both world class dives. The price was $F20 for the dorm and $F25 for 3 meals, which were well worth the money.

    Matangi Island: A peaceful paradise
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • A private island resort with only 14 private bures, this is truly a place to get away from it all. The accomodations are wonderful and homey, food is outrageously good, and the service is beyond belief.

The staff at Matangi are incredibly friendly and truly want you to have the best time possible. The chef comes out of the kicthen to see if you're enjoying your meal, everyone greets you by name. They'll pack you a picnic and drop you on the far side of the island for a private beach afternoon, then pick you up with cold drinks in hand, and return you to the resort. The band plays beaitiful Fijian melodies during dinner while you enjoy the warm breeze coming off the ocean into the dining area.

Because there's no more than 28 guests at any given time, you will have opotunities at meals and in the evenings to get to know your fellow travelers, though there is more than ample privacy as well.

All the activites you would expect are included, with equipment sailing, kayakng, snorkeling, scuba etc... at the ready.

The horseshoe shaped island offers calm waters with plenty of beach to make your own, and mountains with hiking trails for when you want something a bit more active.

There's also several sweet island kitties who love to get petted and snuck treats at dinner.

outrigger on the lagoon: paradise on earth
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We chose to stay at the Outrigger primarily because they boasted the biggest pool in the South Pacific. We checked out their web site and were quite impressed with what we saw. Nothing however prepared us for the sheer beauty of the resort and the gorgeous pool. The resort provides Bure type accomodation and also superior rooms and deluxe ocean view rooms. The superior rooms and deluxe ocean view rooms are identical except that the DOV rooms are on the higher level and they also have the Talai Butler service. The Talai butler will unpack and repack your cases is requested, do your ironing, make hotel reservations, tour reservations etc. The best part of the Talai service is the daily canape's and champagne delivered to your room each evening. When they turn down your bed they also replenish your mini bar fridge with fresh bottled water. I would definitely recommend paying the extra for a deluxe room.
The Bures are located in the main gardens and although they are very gorgeous and probably quite romantic I was warned by people staying in them that they had quite a few "visitors" in the form of lizards, cochroaches, beetles and spiders. That would be enough to put me off staying in one.

They have 4 restaurants in the complex, a general store and a few other gift type stores aswell as local craftspeople selling their wares around the resort.

They also provide a free kids club with lots of great activities to keep the little ones entertained whilst you lie back in your deck chair and sip cocktails all day.

Treasure Island Resort: Treasure Island - a.k.a. Paradise
  • Tip Rating:
  • We only spent a couple of days on this island and had such an amazing time. The water was crystal clear and perfect. The snorkeling was incredible, the kayaking was fun. You can walk around the entire island in about 10-15 minutes. There's a volleyball area, mini-golf course, private bure's all around the perimeter of the beach so that you have your own access to the beach. You can go out on boats to view the coral and to feed the fish. The food is nice and even the tide was cooperative. We went snorkeling on one day and stayed out there for hours enjoying ourselves. We went out the next day and the tide had went out leaving everything a good 6 or 7 feet closer to viewing, it was great!

The island of Treasure is a living sanctuary and protected marine reserve, you will see an abundance of aquatic and marine life in their natural habitat.

They also have a rare species of bird that can't fly called the Banded Rails...
The endangered flightless Banded Rail was introduced to Treasure Island 10 years ago. A shy secretive bird similar in nature to the quail has become very friendly to guests staying on Treasure. You will see these birds ducking in and out of the bushes outside your bure. The Banded Rail are now in abundance and have become very cheeky. In some cases they will hop right into your bure or take a splash in your foot-bath outside!

The have a Sea turtle pond and other neat characteristics which you can learn on my 2 Treasure Island Travelogues.
