 | Fiji Reviews | Tips 41 - 50 of 189 | | We arrived to Suva bus station and decided to try out this hostel, as it seemed to be the nearest one. The place is run by a family (Joe, Suzi and two adorable boys - Colin and Joshua). The atmosphere is great. We really felt that we're taken care of and it was more like visiting friends, not like staying overnight in strange place. There are rooms for 2-4 people and some dorm rooms. The bathrooms are shared, but everything is very clean. The price of 25 FJD (dorm) includes good breakfast and for additional 12 FJD you can have buffet dinner including local specialities. The description on the linked page is somewhat exaggerated, we could see no beaches from the place, and not many shops or restaurants. There was a bar on the ground floor and we had to go across the street to an inidian cooffeeshop to get breakfast. A place like this is OK if you are prepared for it, and if you get what you pay for. We paid the extra 10 FJD to have airconditioning, but an old fan was what we got. I am not 100% sure that my picture is from Mount View, it might be from Mereani's on Mana. But the fan looks the same ;-) The lower of the two pictures on the linked page, which shows the reception / common are, tells me that they must have redecorated the place, it was all dark and brown when we were there. Hopefully they have fixed the rooms, too.
The price is the most positive about the place, from 12 FJ$ for a bed in the dormitory up to 52 FJ$ for a single room with airconditioning. But make sure that the price you agree about includes all taxes, and you better have it all in writing! Leave a Comment

The Royal Hotel is the oldest hotel of Fiji in Levuka the old capital of Fiji on the island Ovalau. Its a very nice hotel that didnt loose its colonial charme. The staff is friendly. You can only get breakfast there, its cheap. In the evening the bar is open for a drink and there is a pool table. Every evening they start a videomovie for people who want to watch. The rooms are ok, with nice colonial balcony with great view and private bathroom. Funny is that you have to turn of the lights of the hotel when you go to sleep, if you go to bed after the reception is closed at 22.00pm. The hotel also has a garden with little bungalow and a tiny pool. The bungalows looked nice too. The Warwick hotel in FIji is about an hour and half drive from Nadi Airport (close to Capital Nadi). It is an excellent hotel with 2 pools, 4 restaurants and great amenities such as snorkling, paddle boats, tennis etc. It is perhaps a little in need of re-decoration but is nonetheless a nice hotel. The people of Fiji are very friendly and nowhere more so than in this hotel. You are always greeted with a Bula (helllo) and a very broad smile. I would definitely recommend it. There is a lovely bay where you can swim and snorkel safely (the equipment is free) and it is truely a paradise feel. Right down to the hammock slung between two coconut trees on the beach. Unfortunately I did not get to stay too long in Fiji only 3 nights and this meant not getting a chance to explore the islands. But Fiji is a place where you should relacx and take it easy. So if you get there relax and enjoy it.

On our return to Fiji from Kiribati, we had only one night in Fiji. We did not want to go far, and had been told about the Raffles Hotel at the airport. We managed to avoid all the agents in the arrival hall and emerged out and across the road. The hotel is clean and tidy, with a nice pool and a water slide. Guess where my son spent his time :-) Compared to norwegian prices it was cheap, but again, I can't be sure whether the price I paid was for one or two, since my son was 11 years old at the time. Nowadays prices start at FJ$ 139 for a double room.
The proximity to the airport and the pool are the best parts of it, but everything else is OK, too. Leave a Comment

3 nights here were part of the Matangi Island package I purchased through a Fiji travel agent. The room was absolutely splendid and by far the best thing about this resort. A double shower, private pool, air conditioning, loads of space. The room was splendid. The beach here though was quite small, crowded, and not very nice. The reef was too far out to swim to, and a snorkeling expedition cost extra. The resort itself was also very crowded, with many large families, which means many screaming children running wild in all common areas. And the food was truly horrific. I like to eat, so this is very important to me! And it's a good 15 miles from town, so you have no other meal options. The big island of Fiji is beautiful, I had a grand time shopping in Sigatoka, but I would definitely not recomend this resort. Leave a Comment

While I was on Ovalau Mavida lodge in levuka, one of the oldest guesthouses in the city burnt to the ground. They reportedly were insured and will rebuild. Leave a Comment Theme: HostelAddress: Levuka
